When those who are above do-no-ado

All those who're below also do-no-ado,

Superiors and their inferiors possess

All the same virtue; and when inferiors

And superiors possess the same virtue,

There are none to act as a taxman. . .

When inferiors act, and their superiors

Also in action, then they both possess

The same sort of thought; and when

They possess the same sort of thought,

There is none to preside as a landlord.

But that the superiors do-no-ado and yet

Thereby use the world in their service,

And that the inferiors, while acting,

Become employed in that service

Contains an unchangeable principle

Of the honourable Heaven placed above

And the humble Earth set lowly below.
