Is there perfect satisfaction

To be found in the world or not?

Are there any ones who can

Preserve themselves alive or not?

If there be some, what would they plan

And do? What would they maintain

And avoid? What would they attend to

And where resort to? Where would they

Keep away from and what delight in?

What would they dislike and admit? . .

Since what the world honours is riches,

Dignities, longevity and being deemed able,

My central query is 'Why people delight

In the rest for the body, rich flavours,

Fine garments, beautiful colours and

Pleasant music if all these things accelerate

The approaching of their untimely demise?'

What people look down on are poverty

And mean condition, short lifetime and

Being deemed feeble and mostly useless.

What men consider bitter experiences

Are that their bodies do not get rest,

That their mouths do not get foodstuff

Of rich flavour, that their individualities

Are not finely clothed, that their eyes

Do not see beautiful colours, and that

Their ears do not listen to pleasant music.

If people do not get such things,

They come to be very sorrowful,

And go on to be troubled with fears

Of losing them and getting no more.

Their thoughts are all about the body,

Which transforms itself with the course

Of time and which is their own restraint;--

Is it such a good idea to conquering time?

Indeed, you pose the central question: Why do people seek riches and comforts "if all these thing accelerate the approaching of their untimely demise". Well stated. John

I believe it's all in how you work it and come to accept the fact that time waits for no one. Good one!!

Love ya!

I prefer the oft quoted phrase… "There but for fortune, go you or I."

We cannot choose the path we are born into. We can only change that path through good fortune combined with personal result. It takes more than resolve alone. It takes lucky breaks.
