ROSES ARE RED -
SOME VIOLETS PINK -
HERE'S A POME -
SEE WHAT YEW THINK!

Poem Artwork

RHYME - OR - NOT?

Copyright: March 25, 2008 - Tom Hyland

Equanimity - can not be Wrought
By dropping a Bomb,
For one of its Synonyms Is,
A shorter word - Aplomb!

Another word may be Substituted,
This is the Disclosure,
Wrap your lips Around
An alternate word - Composure!

When doing up your Hair,
You may use a Brush, or Comb,
And although spelled the Same,
It rhymes Not with Womb!

When people die, we bury Them,
Deep within a Tomb,
This rhymes with the word Above,
But now I’m forced to end this verse with Love!

Some can write with Intelligence,
Others can make us Numb, or Dumb,
But as I pen this Morsel,
You may think I’m just a Crumb!

A Pirate, a Poet, a Pawn, or a Bum,
Some may peruse of a Fairy-Tale,
And be Humming -
Fee - Fie -Foe -Fum!

This brings us round to another Word,
Like the Capitol’s roof, or Dome,
We may see it shine in Sunlight,
As Congress’s D.C. Home!

No matter where I Wander,
Nor where I may Roam,
I may often Wonder,
What have I Become?

As the ideas flow Abundantly,
Back to Square One we Come,
Another’s Tea may be a Poison,
At least to a minor number - Some!

The Head on a Beer,
Oft’ is called - Foam,
Avoid Dumping it on your Lawn,
To prevent having a Drunken Gnome!

In Nome, or Rome, we may find Loam,
In a Library, perhaps a Tome -
Or Two, or Three, or Four -
Alas! I hereby end this Poem -
No More, No More, No More!

Morbid Mordred Murdered Yorick,
One Fell Swoop -
With a Column,
Which Was Doric!
Hoop - De - Dupe - De - Doop!

Different, but cute. Nice work, Tom. I'm a huge fan of rhyme, so I was intrigued. I'm glad I chose to read this.

Neither Rhyme nor Reason, would compute this pome to treason...but it's on the brink :o)
Tom...only you would/could write this witty ditty...and have us enjoy!

Fee, fie, fo, funny,
your poems are like the Easter bunny.
be they purple or be they red,
the chicken lays the eggs instead.
(I hope I'm not plagiarizing from you, Tom.)

I was hooked by your title, and reeled in by this major work.
You always give a laugh when you go a-wording.
