“NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS!”

© - Tom Hyland - 6/11/11

“All Quiet on The Eastern Front” ...
Thought I’d drop a line or Two -
‘Bout General Stuff.
First - let’s ‘Do the Numbers’ ...

After 99 Months here at AD ...
714,313 ‘Hits’ as of 6 AM Today!
Of These - 36,679 Read my Bio.
Only 8,682 Read my Book Synopsis.

“Bawlmer, Merlyn - Home of The Hons”
Was published by Publish America (A RAG) in May 2005 -
And CANCELLED by Them a Year Later -
For ‘Non-Sufficient Interest’.

Only about 100 Copies were ever Sold -
And I Bought almost HALF of Them -
And gave away as Gifts, or Promotions.
Occasionally, someone will Ask how to get a Copy.

Last Two or Three I Bought -
Were ‘Used’ on Amazon!
Maybe after I’m ‘Pushin’ Up Daisies’
They’ll be ‘Collector’s Items’?

For 5 Years now, I’ve ‘Dilly-Dallied’
‘Bout Editing & Re-Publishing -
Started - Stopped - Remembered - Forgot ...
Too Much like ‘WORK’!

The Second, Almost, Maybe ‘Test’ Book -
“The New Jerusalem” a Fiction -
Posted 5 Chapters - n’ then - Gave Up!
4,364 of Youze Guyz Read These.

Of 706 Titles - Only 2,912 Reviews -
Of 65 Stories - 126,165 Hits.
Of 354 Poems - 245,852 - Almost Double!
Of 285 Articles - 204,848 Visits.

Of 28 News Items - 40,200 Hits.
Of my Blogs - 12,335.
Thus - it is readily apparent That ...
Numbers Mean - “Nuttin’ Honey!”

IF - We got Paid - One Lousy RED Cent -
For Each ‘Visit’ - I Would have Earned $7,143.23 -
In 8 Years = $892.90 Average per Year!
‘Chump Change?’ - but, Better Than - ‘Nuttin’ Honey!’

Am I - ‘Bitchin’ n’ Moanin’?’
HELL NO!
Just stating some Facts.
WHY DO WE WRITE?

Certainly Not for Profit!
To become Famous?
NOT HARDLY!
Is there a ‘Covert’ Reason?

Just last night, on MPTV -
An Artist asked:
“What is the Reason for ART?”
Answer: ‘TO PROVIDE PLEASURE!’

The Artist Finds Pleasure in Doing It.
The Art Fan Finds Pleasure by Enjoying It.
Could the Same Hold True for WRITING?
As Curly might say: “SOITANLY!”

Aren’t You just ‘Tickled Shitless’ -
Each Time you ‘Birth’ a New Baby?
Isn’t IT like having an Orgasm?
Too Much Info?

Let’s Be Honest ...
When The Muses Juices Flow ...
It’s like Virgin Olive Oil ...
SIZZLING in a Hot Frying Pan!

‘Somethin’s Cookin’ -
An Idea is Smoldering -
The Aroma is Pleasing the Nostrils!
VOILA! ‘Look What I DID!’

Could there be an Existential Reason?
I WRITE! THEREFORE I AM!
Do We Write for Posterity?
Our Posteriors Certainly Do Widen!

‘NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS!’
WHY? BECAUSE ...
‘BAD NEWS’ SELLS NEWSPAPERS -
IF THERE’S NO ‘BAD NEWS’ - THAT’S GOOD!

“We Find These Truths to be Self-Evident ...’
SO - along with Your Posteriors -
Widen Your Horizons ...
WRITE! WRITE! WRITE!

RIGHT?

PERFORM A WRITING RITE!

THEN YOU CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT -
YOU DONE WRIT SOMETHIN’!

"Bawlmer, Merlyn" Huh????? I once had a friend who came from your sair fitty transplanted here to New England. I always used to tell him to get the peanut butter out of his mouth before he wsaid anything. WHAT?!?!? wELL, it's better than SOME of the things I could have told him to get out of his mouth. Still, he used t5o complain that us New Hampshire-ites sounded "funny." I guess uirt's a metter of peraspective.

Thank YOU for writing....your stuff never fails to get my juices flowing and provoke some wisenheimer reply.

God bless,

Not Hardly, Indeed. I give most of my books to animal shelters so they can raise a few more bucks to feed a few more homeless critters, and that's good enough for me.

And, Write On!

PS: Is that your new pet bull??!!

PPS: Give some of your new pet's droppings to Brother Jersey so he can start a garden!
