‘Tis really a shortening of - Spittle.
The Real name of course is Saliva -
The First Stage to Digestion!
When two people Resemble one Another -
We say they’re the Spitting Image!
When someone or something is within Reach -
We say - they’re within Spitting Distance!
A Spittlebug, or Spittle Insect, or Froghopper -
Is a small, jumping, plant-sucking Insect -
Whose Larvae produce Cuckoo Spit!
A Cuspidor is a Spittoon!
A Quick-Tempered person is a Spitfire -
Also a WWII RAF British Fighter Plane!
Meticulous care in presenting a neat Appearance
Is ‘Spit and Polish’ ...
A spiral curl of Dampened Hair
Laid Flat against the Cheek or Forehead -
Is a ‘Kiss Curl’ or ‘Spit Curl’.
A Baby’s regurgitation is a Spit Up!
A Hospital (ho-spit-al) especially for Lepers is a Spital.
A Spitter, or Spitball is a tiny wad of Paper -
Chewed and moistened with Saliva -
That is thrown as a Prank!
An Eel split and then grilled or fried is a Spitchcock.
Which rhymes with Alfred Hitchcock!
Full of, or showing Petty Maliciousness is - Spiteful.
A Breed of dog with a curled tail is a - Spitz!
Well - That’s It!
That’s ‘All She Wrote’!
Ever get so mad you could Spit?
Much better than the word with ‘h’ in it!
