Said that: In 1960 - 72% of Population was Married.
But, in 2010 - Figure Dropped to 51%!
Soon - Will Be MORE Un-Married Than Married!
Things have Changed from the ‘Old Values.’
She and Dan gave many ‘Reasons’ for this Phenomenon.
I called in, and got Through -

Was simple: FREEDOM!

Married at 25 - Married for 34 Years!
Saw Two Adult Children Through College!
Wife Filed for DIVORCE! Incompatibility!
After Initial SHOCK - Got Over It!
The Past 10 Years of My Life Have Been The BEST!
I DO - WHAT I WANT - WHEN I WANT - HOW I WANT!
No One to Argue about MONEY!
Nor HOW My HOURS Are Spent!

Been ‘Shooting Pool’ Now - for Over 10 Years!

First part: Great idea, problem is it sounds too much like something thwat makes good sense. Above anyone you should know that politicos are allergic to good sense.
Second part: I'm beginning to retool my life after 34 years of marriage. First time my life has been my own since I was a kid. I miss Sue but I asm REALLY beginning to enjoy the freedom!
Your housing scenario works until all the houses are completed. Then even discount mortgages won't work if nobody has a job. So the houses just decay all over again. Detroit just knocks them down now. They did the same thing here a while back out here near Palmdale. Brand new homes just flattened. Now that was crazy.
The lid at my house is usually up because when I gotta pee my aim isn't always perfect and the smaller donut hole might get wet if you catch my drift. cuz p

And they are now in just about every city and town in America. And very sadly to someone like me, many of them contain abandoned, starving pets.
As for marriage, I vowed to never again marry when I got divorced. I was very joyously single for 10 years, then Mean Tall Injun Woman came along and made me the best Green Chile Stew I ever had. Almost 20 years together now, and nary a fight. And she still allows me to be me and be free. In fact, me and the mangy mutts are heading off today.
PS: The solution to the old toilet lid dilemma is having two toilets - a 'Hers' and a 'His and The Dogs' (They know they can drink out of mine, and not hers!)
I think 'just a Ham', Tom. Haha. Not really, quite. Your piece rocks, voiced, one day at a time, until, their one day will become as old as ours. Marriage probably won't be a word/institute then, too constricting.
