-- INSIDE ETERNITY --

John Herlihy

Come with me on a miraculous journey,

That will prove to be but one of a kind.

A sea voyage into the realm of eternity,

On a shoreless ocean beyond the mind.

Imagine tidal eternity, a moment unspun,

Unbounded by any limits of day and night.

Fathomless ocean of infinite drops wrung,

Time serves eternity as white serves light.

The present is but one moment soon past;

The past never claims as a moment at all.

Future a bud whose bloom will never last;

Time moves forward and will not ever stall.

We know what time is and what it is not;

Measured moments we count on a clock.

Eternity the moments never to be caught,

Never measured by a relentless tick-tock.

An eternal moment outstrips endless time,

A door in the sky opening into infinite light.

Lending a sacred insight I can claim as mine,

Gone forever images of deep space as night.

We come at last to a mysterious variance;

What may time seek and where is it going?

It seems to exist as a form of compliance,

To probe mystery with insights of knowing.

Eternity a bubble, there as perfect sphere,

Fragile, sightless, perfectly shaped whole.

Mysterious, oh so distant, but always near,

Defining the universe and its visionary soul.

Death but a moment with no future or past,

The one final moment as most truly human.

With death finally done, our soul will outlast,

All the ages of time with its precise acumen.

We need to live in the moment, not pretend;

Do not wonder too much, no need to foresee.

Focus on the moment, with time to contend;

Eternity is always present, just let eternity be.

I'M WITH YOU. I DON'T WORRY ABOUT ETERNITY, BUT I AM ASSURED THAT ONE DAY, WHEN 'HE' WANTS ME TO, I WILL GET THERE. I LIVE, WITH REVERENCE AND AS PERFECTLY AS I CAN, IN THE 'HERE AND NOW' BECAUSE I KNOW THIS IS WHERE 'HE' WANTS ME TO BE. THANKS FOR SHARING, MY FRIEND. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

Oh, John! I am speechless. This, among your many I've enjoyed and thought over, is by far the most meaningful. Thank you for sharing it.

I like reading of eternity & you have made it quite eternal but still using the fact that we tend toward the present while being able to travel with eternity...I loved this one, John, thanks...-e-

Once we become aware that we are on a miracle journey, the doors open and so do the windows. Thank you for your momentary bless dear poet. have a wonderful day. Blessings.

Once again, a beautifully structured poem about a difficult concept, eternity. The way you described it, eternity appears to be a rather boring place to go. At the end of the poem you tell us to "live in the moment" and not waste time on eternity. I agree. But there's just a chance that what we write today will stick around in cyberspace for a very long time, while the video of the day gone viral for some oddity, will quickly fade into obscurity.

Thoughtfully written. One can easily construe (reading this) that your heart yearns for your eternal home. Infinity. Timelessness. Timeless existence. Immortality. The path each one of us chooses to walk (in this life) will most assuredly lead to its decreed destination. Enjoyed this John. r
