Poem Artwork

The smallest feline

Is a Masterpiece.

               Leonardo Da Vinci

All of us go through our lives

Gazing upon millions of faces

Some are mere passing glances

Some leave indelible traces

Three of my rescued kittens

Have now sadly left our home

Their faces are etched in my soul

No matter where on earth they roam

Mary the most gentle of all creatures

Now resides with a gentle little child

I hope they bring each other comfort

Through life’s ups and downs and miles

Rose and Runt have also found a home

With a lonely compassionate man

I hope the three of them share friendship

For as long as they possibly can

Groucho still remains with us

And he probably always will

Just gazing upon his sage face

Brings my heart and soul a thrill

Slasher remains my favorite

His face is such a joy to behold

He’s a dashing colorful character

With a zest for life most bold

All of us go through our lives

Gazing upon millions of faces

Some are mere passing glances

But some leave indelible traces

I often wondered about this..the random thing and the purpose thing...you said it well, Ed. As for the cats, it sounds like perfect matches for them. Good deeds, Ed.

If baby rhinos needed a home
I don't doubt that you'd be ready
Though Rebecca might rename you MUD
To us you'd still be Little Eddie.

From the end of your toes
To the top of your hair
You are filled to the brim
With a heart full of care.

...Well, if their names are anything to go by, then they must do! What characters you portray here... guess you are only as old as the kitten you feel, Groucho! A touching write about kitty-kat love... and those little faces ARE adorable - no wonder you are smitten, Kitten! LOL Kate xx

All I can tell you is my 6 month old Sibi has caused me much consternation. He is in to everything and the only thing he hasen't done yet is walk on the ceiling but I see him eyeing that project for some future date.,I can't compose a poem or sit at my computer without him bothering me and trying to get the cursor. He wakes me at 4.30 in the morning and then won't let me fall back to sleep. He darts around the room leaping from any height he can get to.
I hope he calms down when he gets older. I have to keep him in my bed room as my daughter is allergic to him. Mac, my dog, playfully so far, fights with him but Sibi always starts it. Didn't realize what I was getting myself into when I adopted this inexhaustible kitten. Glad your five some were better mannered

Your love for animals shows why Creator gave them to us.
They are just like family and arouse all the same emotions
in us that humans do. Usually you'll find that people who
don't like animals, don't like people, and a lot of them don't
like themselves. Wonderful write Ed. If I lived closer I'd
come and get slasher;-)!

Wonderful how you match the kittens with just the right people :-) Last night was very difficult for me. I had to chase and hiss at a stray cat to save its life. It wanted to curl up under my daughter's van that was about to move. Both of us would of loved to have taken it home, but the man of the house is a cat hater.

Animals are like that. They work their way into your heart and there they will reside forever. Nice work.

Ed, it's very uncommon to find people that look at the four legged creatures in our lives with the depth of passion that you seem to do. Everytime I read one of your writes about the animals that you've encountered, it's much like being able to see through the window of your heart. It's a large soft, gentle and caring heart. You are a good man Ed Kostro, and an equally as good a writer.

What a beautiful poem you have penned and how true the last stanza is. I think some of the innocent eyes had left the house. Hope they find joy in where they joined.

What darling kitty faces, Eddie!
And I love that quote by Da Vinci....don't believe I ever heard
it before. I'm going to print it and put it over my desk.
And yes...some sure do "leave indelible traces." I had a black Angora
named Inky...who was shot by a cat-hater when my beloved animal was
nine years old. I can still see him, sitting near the cupboard door
in my kitchen, soulful huge eyes begging for the treat he knew was
just inside...

Nice work, friend poet.

I agree with Thomas...your compassion is that of many people. This way those that have none are taken care of by your over-abundance. I love all creatures too. They have the depth of thought man doesn't reach sometimes. Good poem.Susan
