My wife and I recently spent a night

In a haunted hotel in New Mexico

I had purposely booked us there

Because I love the paranormal so

Of course I didn’t tell my spouse

About the history of this inn

I didn’t want to frighten her

Or make her head spin

We stayed in the Buffalo Bill Suite

Since his apparition has often been seen

Along with several other historic figures

Who have made many a guest scream

Gunfights and murders galore have erupted

Since the hotel was built in the Wild West

I couldn’t wait to meet an historic figure

Or one of the ancient hotel guests

After my spouse nervously retired

Her heart now filled with dread

I silently roamed the hotel corridors

Forsaking climbing into bed

With camera and camcorder

I stealthily crept down its halls

I listened for ghostly noises

And zoomed in on the walls

The only thing of merit

I found that very long night

Was a ghostly mural apparition

Which filled my heart with delight

There is a strange dark shadowy figure

In front of the painted Padre dignitary

As I stood there examining it closely

I heard a faint ‘My name’s Mary’

I quickly whirled around

But no one was standing there

I didn’t see a single thing

But at that mural I did stare

When I inquired at the front desk

About this eerie event in the morn

I was fascinated when I heard

The ghostly tale that’s been born

The old St. James Hotel was built

By President Lincoln’s personal chef

And near that very hotel mural

His wife Mary met her death

They say that ever since that fateful night

She has roamed through the St. James halls

Often speaking to startled hotel guests

Often appearing in that mural on the wall

Believe whatever you will

About this Western ghost story

I find Hauntings fascinating

They are never ever boring!

The St. James Hotel is located in Cimarron, NM.

It was built in 1872 by Henri Lambert and his wife, Mary.

At least 26 murders and gunfights have occurred in the hotel;

And bullet holes can still be seen in the dining room ceiling.

The St. James is on the National Register of Historic Sites.
