Wicked Weather II

Poem Artwork

The dire weather predictions were right

Bringing death destruction and fright

A succession of storms brought 12 feet of snow

Torrential rains brought severe flooding to Ohio

Mudslides in California swept many homes away

Twenty one people missing - what a terrible day

A mother watched her 2-year old child being swept downstream

The wicked wind howled and roared and drowned out her screams

A rain-engorged lake may soon spill over its banks

The weather systems lately leave very little to thank

More rockslides and avalanches are probably on the way

For all of these many weather victims we should now pray

Rain pounded water-logged California again early Tuesday, hampering efforts to find survivors buried under a mud slide in a coastal community and prompting hundreds to flee a mountain town before a rain-engorged lake spills over a dam.

A succession of storms, which have brought heavy snow to parts of Northern California and astonishing amounts of rain to the south, were blamed for the deaths of at least 12 people, turning normally mild Southern California into a giant flood zone.

The storm dumped record rainfall on much of Southern California and more than a dozen feet of snow on much of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Northern California.   These mountains were expected to pile up 3 more feet of snow before the storms subside late Tuesday.  Hazardous avalanche warnings have now been posted.

Heavy rain and snow also produced flooding along the Ohio River that has affected communities in West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, covering riverside roads and forcing residents to evacuate.

*OUCH* that pic--glad no one was hurt

you're right, this weather is getting wierder. talked to my dad in ohio last night. on christmas eve, they had 28 inches of snow. by new years day it had melted. lots of rain until last wednesday when they had an ice storm that dropped two inches of ice. the woods behind their house was pretty much shattered. many limbs down, their house is the only one in the neighborhood with power.

the system from california is approaching texas with threats of severe storms, maybe even tornadoes *GAD i hope not* awfully windy out there, sustained 30 miles out of the south, looks like it's going to storm.

excellent, thought provoking write--thank you

(((HUGS))) and love, karla. :)

It is so sad for all the natural disasters happening.
A Mother watched her 2 year old child being swept away down stream The wicked wind howled roared and drowned out her screams I can't even imagine the horror and helplessness she felt
Southern NV is getting slammed with floods and avalanches Southern UT washing away. Everyone evacuating 5 ft washed away every 5 minutes I think it was in So UT.
This is such a Strong poem!
Thank You
Tracey
But I have to say I LOVE the Rain It is a treat for me. Don't want all this to happen though. Just want to play in it.
Have a good day and Thank You again.

Little ('information station') Eddie, my goodness! Where would we be without your indepth reporting, especially since you weave it so well into verses with impact?!

It hurts my heart, thinking of so many people in SO many places, being challenged and deluged by Mother Nature. We have flood warnings in effect 'til Thursday morning... and it's only Tues. now. Sigh. Thank you for always getting us onto the same page, as they say. You're a wealth of info. and a generous one to share it. katy xox.

...You gotta be kiddin me with that picture... where on earth did THAT fall from?! Is anyone listening to Bob Dylan anymore?! Perhaps we should be... The Times They Are A Changin, and The Answer My Friend Is Blowin In The Wind... guess some folks are just too ahead of their time and our ears too deaf to hear them. The world continues to get smaller and Mother Nature less long-suffering. On our knees is perhaps where we belong in such times. We can always rely on you, Ed, to keep us posted. In fact, I get my information from no other source!! Bless you, and all those who need our thoughts and prayers, for whatever reason, at this time. LOL Kate xx

Thank you for condensing it for us Ed. WEll done! As I sit here
the rain is battering us once again and it is so heavy I can't even
hear my music. But I thank God I'm not in those mudslides or stucj
in the Sierra snows. No going to the mountains for me for awhile. I've never seen it this bad here! It seems I do lttle else but pray these days for all the weather related disasters. My friends in Muncie Indiana were without electricity for a week still unable to get cable they were in the ice storm unlike any I've ever seen, Carmen Ruggero and George Jackson Both still offline but at least they have electric now. Pray for them.

Oooo, I saw that picture in the paper this morning. Can you believe that boulder is 25 feet high? And I can attest to the rains here in West Virginia. I thought we had enough of that last year.
