Nasty Green Blues

Poem Artwork
-->

For a Fine Chicago Irish Lad Named Billie

I’m a feared that me dogs me cats and me self

Did a wee bit too much St. Paddy’s Day celebratin

And now we’ve got these awful nasty green blues

And for them to vanish we’re now anxiously a waitin

We snuck into me ould liquor cabinet in the basement

Probably a wee bit too early in yesterday’s mornin

And I gotta say we had a real grand ould time we did

‘Til these nasty ould green blues soon came a callin

Me two dogs and me self took a very strong likin

To a grand ould bottle of Irish whiskey I’d been savin

And it seems that me feisty ould furry feline friends

For that Guinness Stout had a real St. Paddy’s Day cravin

By the time me neighbor Billie dropped over to the house

Me and me pets had drained most of the good liquor dry

And I surely hated seein such a fine young Irishman

Severely breakin down like that and startin to cry

But to top off all the very grand ould day’s party festivities

We sat down to partake in a huge pot of Beef & Cabbage Stew

And of course what would this very fine Holiday meal a been

Without some of me homemade green St. Paddy’s Day brew

But now we find ourselves this early mornin

Feelin more than a wee bit sick and queasy

Good thing St. Paddy’s Day comes but once a year

Cause doin all this celebratin sure ain’t been easy

This mornin every litter box in the house is overflowin

With some god-awful nasty smellin lumpy green stuff

And me dogs been poopin all mornin on me neighbor’s lawn

And them big green piles they been leavin are sure nasty enough

And me headache’s more than a wee bit dreadful today

I think I’ll just be stayin in bed all day long here at home

Oh Lord I think them nasty green blues just hit me agin

It’s back to that pot ‘o green - and a hasty end to this poem

Oft in me green blues I wander
To this ould green pot agin,

I feel it a-huggin' me,
As when it hugged me then.

And now I hear a voice a -grumblin'
As in those dreaded days of yester yore,

Me neighbor Billie must be complainin yet agin,

‘Bout me two dogs poopin green outside his door.

But next St. Paddy’s Day I’ve promised

To save the lad a swig of me Irish whiskey,

And I truly hope that I remember this solemn vow

Because breakin it now just might be a wee bit risky.

Ha! You and me, both, LE. Personally, I couldn't get the image of you in your shamrock undies outta me head all night! (you boldly told the world of those on my site, you silly thing).

I can promise you this: If you guzzle Guinness in a pub in Ireland, you will not be cursed with a hangover or even a twinge of guilt. You see, Guinness is a health food. Yep... sooooooo, next year, I expect to see you next to me and 25 or 30 of the cheekiest Irish folk you'll ever meet on a stool with our belly firmly "up to the bar"...

Deal? Good. (and bring Rebecca, for sure!) Oh, and Irish pubs allow pets... dogs, cats, canaries, whatever. Wheeeee... katy xox

Yup, you's da guy I wrote about today, for sure, El Kostro!! And have you any excuse?! "Kostro" don't sound too Irish to me. You obviously don't need one. And the picture of poor old Kitty is disgustin ... you's gonna regret that in the mornin, when the Feline Protection League comes a-rappin at your door. And, before I gag on me own self-righteousness, hic!, can you pass me that last bottle of somethin... it's bin a long, hard day back in the Chinese laundry... LOL sKrubber Kate xx

We put the Irish in a round room, telling them there's a Guinness in ther corners...Lasts for weeks..

Glad Bush is helping out the sisters with the IRA... I love the Irish, or we would not have many other things to laugh at all at all..

Thank God I have no more of those Irish cursed headaches. Some day you will learn O'Kostro that there is a devil at the bottom of that Irish whiskey. Great poem.

If ye'd been mindin' yerself, ye'd have stuck with just wearin' o'the green and a bit o' the beef 'n cabbage! Now go be cleanin' the litter boxes and pick'n up th' green piles. T' be sure, ye did a wee bit o' over-celebratin'...but ye gave me a good laugh :o)
