I’ll Be There For You

There was a scruffy young homeless pup

And there was a sad impoverished little boy

They lived in cities four hundred miles apart

And for neither of them did life hold very much joy

The little city boy had very few friends

He spent his summer days at the city library

The scruffy little pup had no friends at all

Trembling in a cage so terrifyingly scary

One hot muggy summer afternoon at the library

The boy found a picture of this pup on the Internet

And the plight of this dog really touched the little boy’s soul

Soon he wished that Scruffy could be his best friend and pet

So he sent an urgent e-mail to the animal shelter

In a city that was over four hundred miles away

“Dear People who have poor Scruffy in that cage,

Can you please send him to my house right away?”

“I promise that I will give him a good home,

I promise that I will take real good care of him,

I promise that I will feed Scruffy everyday,

And I promise to love him forever,” signed Tim.

But unfortunately the city pound had no transport

And it was impossible to send a dog so many miles

So they sent Tim a very somber note explaining it all

Making him sad and miserable for a very long while

But luckily a kind hearted soul at the distant city pound

Contacted a volunteer organization that could possibly help

And when young Tim heard that Scruffy was really on his way

Almost everyone in that huge library heard his wildly joyous yell

Scruffy the once homeless pup arrived at Tim’s home yesterday

And the bright gleam in both of their faces was one of pure joy

And I would gladly drive another eight hundred miles tomorrow

To unite another pet with such a marvelous deserving young boy

Many Child and Animal Welfare Organizations today are woefully under funded, and usually in desperate need of volunteers.  Maybe you could find it in your heart to devote a few hours to one of their very worthy causes.

Both these needy kids and these needy animals will be forever grateful.
