Poem Artwork

Sadly inspired by world events,

And by the leader of the so called

‘Christian Coalition’

“And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more;

People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening…”

Paul Simon,

The Sounds of Silence

As I frequently travel about our ever changing planet

I’m filled with sadness at the many things I hear and see

Hardly anyone seems very cordial or open minded any more

And no longer are human hearts filled with merriment or glee

To me our world seems to be ever sadly transforming

And to me these horrific changes don’t bode very well

We humans seem to be hate-filled and self-centered now

We humans seem to thrive on creating our own earthly hell

The once created brotherhood of earth’s ancient human race

Is filled with calls for genocide and ‘ethnic and racial cleansing’

And it always seems to be organized religion versus organized religion

In this cycle of self destruction and violence that never seems to be ending

As I travel on I soon pass an old established church

But I can no longer even find solace there within

Since today from its once lofty and revered pulpit

Hatred is vehemently preached - our greatest sin

And I truly have to wonder these very troublesome days

What the Creator must think as He looks down upon man

I doubt that using Him to spark even more hatred and violence

Was what He truly had in mind in His very serene Creative Plan

We also now constantly and callously destroy

Everything in our so called ‘modern progress path’

On our extremely self-centered spiral of self destruction

In our gluttonous modern world that’s racing much too fast

Will humanity even exist tomorrow

Does anyone’s god really even care

As I ponder this I spot a forlorn creature

So I sadly stop walking and now at it I stare

I’m sadly peering at a tiny brown and white newborn fawn

Its mother now lies very dead in the freshly manicured grass

It seems like just yesterday that this was a great green forest

But everywhere today ‘civilization’ encroaches much too fast

The numerous isolated motorists now speeding by

Hardly notice this distressed orphaned fawn at all

They seem far too ego-centric and self-absorbed

Rushing home or to the newest trendy shopping mall

I wish this tiny orphaned creature well

As it slowly and mournfully wanders away

And deep in my now very glum heart and soul

I realize that we are all sadly earth’s orphans today

“And the people eagerly bowed and prayed

To the self-centered hate-filled world they had made…”

This is so sad. I have no idea how people could just pass right buy and not even care. Its like a song I wrote CRIES about how people just walk right by these poor helpless animals and dont even take a second glance at them or think of helping. I cant belive that mankind has turned like this and that the earth is even going through a timae like this. I dont know how God could let this happen. I think he has created a monsterous civilaztaion where people just kill all of his creatures and think they are worthless. People care to much about mankind and dont care at all about what happens to the animals. I AM DISSAPOINTED AT MANKIND AND WHAT THEY HAVE LET THE EARTH BECOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i don't think the Creator judges our actions ... we were created so the Creator could experience itself ... would the Creator judge itself? utimately, we create our own reality through free will, thought collectively we not doing a good job of it ... need more evolving ... excellent poem in style and content ...

This cracks me up, Ed... here we all are, all passionately wanting the same thing, and yet, in part, disagreeing about how it might be achieved. We can agree to disagree and happily get on with doing our own thing; the world is such that our own freedom of choice-making has become so much our "god" that perhaps we care little for how it might affect others - or even care what others think, when it boils down to it. Perhaps disunity and lack of concerted focus is one of the biggest problems... if we could SEE the truth about how close we are to the edge, that might sharpen up our ideas a bit, and cause us to come together, getting over our differences in order to survive. It will probably come to that - and maybe sooner than we think. Your compassionate heart for our non-human world shines as always. LOL Kate xx

This is so sad yet true. The war
and all of that hatred is eating
up our love. Mother Earth shall
survive to be what it once was
I believe. In the meantime we will
be gone I'm afraid, destroying
ourselves. Great message Ed!

wonderful how you tied this to the classic song. reminds me very much of the dream I wrote of recently. if I even begin to comment on your "inspiration" for this piece, we will be here all day and night. needless to say, I think this needed to be said. Dawn

As I do not follow the news, too much sadness and destruction for me to deal with, I also do know of something said by this Pat Robertson guy, and I may not know what he said, but I do know it was not very "christian"...maybe we should all do well to remember that only a**holes run the world...now as for this wonderful though sad view of our natural world, what can I say, it is most beautiful and most sad at the same time...Find Peace & Share it...Ed & Rufuz

This is so well said Ed, I couldn't agree more! I also agree with George, but the two are not opposite. If we can't be concerned for our chldren and our animals, along with the rest of creation, we have no business calling ourselves humanity, such as God put in charge of this planet! We are its caretakers of everything He created, not just ourselves. He equipped us with all we would need, to do the job. Instead too many choose to concentrate only on their own objectives and forget the larger scheme of things. They suffer from what I call intervision!

Pat Roberstson should have the grace to retire. He always wanted to be a world figure, so he says things to draw attention to himself. He has become pathetic. Having said that I think all who watch him are like lemmings and can't think for themselves. To spawn such vitriol without thinking of what it does to our nation, shows how low this society has fallen and sad to say it is mostly the fault of the religious peoples. Thank God, God isn't religion! The I Am has nothing to do with religion or denominations!
Splendid write Ed!

Can't agree with you on this one. I think if we all cared as much for a baby torn from its mothers womb in abortion as we do for a hapless waif this world would change over night. Some people lose their perspective in life and with it their love for each other.
