“Little darling, I feel that the ice is slowly melting,
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been clear,
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun,
and I say it's all right,
It's finally all right”

The Beatles,

Here Comes The Sun

Once upon a time

When I wearily arose

Each and every morning

I heard the frenzied sounds

Of many other people

Madly dashing about

This faced paced world of ours

With their very fast gas guzzling cars

And their even faster modern lifestyles

Once upon a time

When I wearily arose

I immediately turned on the television

To catch all the Morning News Shows

Listening to the latest tragedy

The latest bloody crime

Or the latest political fiasco

And once upon a time

I listened to

All the many media ads

Telling me how to

Live better

Dress better

Make more money

Who to vote for

Who to love Who to hate

And even what church to attend

And once upon a time

After I showered dressed

And raced out of the house

I soon found myself

Doing what many others were doing

Vainly trying to outmaneuver everyone else

On the highway

On my job

In the trendy shops and restaurants

And in almost every aspect of my life

And once upon a time

I even listened to all the politicians

Each one loudly proclaiming

That he or she

Would truly be the one

Who we could trust

To make this world

A much better place

˜

Today

I don’t hear or see

That frenetic traffic

Or that fast hectic lifestyle

Or those bloody news shows

Or those slick pricey advertisements

Or any need to outdo anyone else in life

Or even any of those pompous politicians

At all

Today

Each and every morning

I seem to only hear

My wife lovingly whispering good morning

The songbirds joyously chirping outside

The slow drip drip drip

Of my freshly brewing coffee

My felines contentedly purring

My two dogs joyously prancing about

And my heart still beating

In my still pumping chest

And as I eagerly open my eyes

And I eagerly jump out of bed

I seem to only see

The bright smile on my wife’s caring face

The sheer contentment in my cats’ purrs

The loyalty and eagerness in my dogs’ eyes

The fragrant colorful budding flowers

The birds and butterflies fluttering all about

And best of all

The bright radiant sun once again emerging

And somehow penetrating my very soul

And after I get dressed

And I eagerly head out the door

With my two dogs excitedly in tow

For our refreshing sunrise walk

I often begin to seriously wonder

If the world has really changed this much

Or if it really took me

All those long tiring years

To finally figure out

That life truly is

Whatever each and every one of us

Make it out to be

Each and every day of our lives

And not what someone else

Tells us it should be

“Sun, Sun, Sun, Here It Comes”

Damned great thoughts, here, LE... BUT... it's yin/yang, isn't it? I'm not sure we get to the 2nd half of your marvelous piece without experiencing the first half, or some of it, anyway.

On the other hand, if I'd read this by literally ANYONE else, I would have loved the sentiments, but coming from you, my eyes are misting and my audible sighing is bothering the neighbors. Sigh... this is wonderful! katy xox p.s. I'm late getting to this so I wish to send all my very best and sincerest praise and admiration for what you are doing now... helping the animals left behind by Katrina. You are an example to us all. katy xox

Ed:

This poem is a gem. Yes, there are beaties everywhere if we would care to stop our daily busy routine and really listen to it.

However, being able to afford the time to listen to it is a blessing to some but not for others; so in this case you are very lucky to be able to enjoy that. Wish I could afford to do the same.

Ed,
It takes the wisdom of years, to understand the truth behind this. When we were young we not only were but wanted to be in the frenzied fast paced world. Today, we just want to be comfortable in our own skin, and not have to worry about what others are doing or where they are going or how they get there.
Somehow...now it doesn't matter anymore. It's our world, and we've worked hard to find it...now is the time to enjoy it.
Thank you..

Lisa

Great poem Ed. It's not easy drowning out all that noise. Those of us who just love the planet, and want to protect it should move to another planet where we can do just that. Let's get off this non-stop bill board. ~ Sara

We form the habit of internalizing all the external matter spewed at us each day, from radio,tv,internet then realize we have become overloaded distraught and impatient with everyone and everything. Your scenario shows that you are enlightened enough to have broken the habit;-) I have too, and oh what a joy it is.I watch headline news just enough to keep in touch then off it goes. Beautiful thoughts Little Eddie;-)

Sounds so nice to not allow the self to follow the rest, but Rufuz says if we were to visit we would have to stay in a motel at a distance, as neither he nor I do sunrise walks, maybe sunset, but never sunrise...;) Ed & Rufuz

Brava! As the pressure to conform presses down on us and squeezes the joy out of everyday life, you are living the "good life". This is an excellent write! Hey Ed, got the latest super-duper deluxe gigantic HD-ready LCD TV that will be outdated in three months? How about a Hummer in the garage? Didn't think so!

Brilliant, Ed... an attitude of gratitude and an appreciation of every moment of life is everything. It's not the number of our days, but the quality of each and every minute that's important - perhaps a largely obselete way of thinkin in a culture that is obsessed with pace and numbers. I love this - but we have to perhaps LEARN that place of rest rather than "wait for it to happen" which, depending on our temperament, might never take place. And I sure wish that the sun WOULD come back again... I'm freezing and it's only August... I will be in hibernation by next week if I can't stoke up on a bit more VitD. TY LOL Kate xx
