Here’s a Unique Way to Donate Your Dollars and Dimes

Many people have been asking me how they can help the animal victims of Katrina, and where they can send donations to help these creatures.

One of the many animal welfare organizations that has been working in the Gulf and rescuing animals is Noah’s Wish.

And here is a unique way that you can help them:

Beginning Monday, September 26th, Rockefeller Plaza in New York City will become ‘Humanity Plaza’ for five days as volunteers literally construct homes around-the-clock for families displaced by Hurricane Katrina.

In addition to helping rebuild the lives and homes of people affected by this tragedy, thousands of animals were also the victims of Katrina, and they need new shelter, too.

In response to this, NBC will also highlight the efforts of Noah’s Wish and the Cape May Box Company who has donated eight pre-fabricated dog houses to Noah’s Wish to be assembled on the Plaza.

Animal lovers can contribute additional dog houses with a donation to Noah’s Wish.

The Cape May Box Company will oversee construction of the orders on the Plaza throughout the week, and the completed dog houses will then be shipped to Louisiana.

The animal welfare agency, Noah’s Wish, arrived in Slidell, Louisiana immediately after Hurricane Katrina devastated the city and has been working with Slidell Animal Control to rescue and shelter pets left behind in the storm.

Over 700 animals are being cared for at their temporary facility in Louisiana, and these donated dog houses will be distributed by Noah’s Wish and Animal Control to residents who are able to return to their homes and also will be provided to dogs who are adopted into loving new homes.

Noah’s Wish and the other animal welfare organizations involved in pet rescue hope to reunite all pets with their owners. But if that is not possible, many pets will be placed into long-term foster care until loving new homes can be found. And every house that is donated will go directly to a family who was affected by this disaster.

The Habitat for Humanity Homes and the Cape May Box Company Dog Houses will be assembled by thousands of citizens - including current Habitat for Humanity employees and volunteers, employees of NBC, and visitors to New York’s Rockefeller Plaza throughout the week. Celebrities and musicians will join the efforts by raising hammers and microphones with special musical performances throughout the week of the 26th, including a kickoff concert on Monday.

Humanity Plaza, while serving as a construction zone, will also serve as a destination for viewers and visitors to get involved, and to learn about other ways to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
