A Continuation of My Autumn Forest Journey

“Between every two trees,

Lies a doorway to another world.”

John Muir

˜

Suddenly a tiny bird chirps

It sounds like a meadow lark

And I spot a misty shadow ahead

Gliding through the trees in the dark

As I wander along the forest trail

Many eerie shadows seem to follow

I now wonder if I’m imagining things

As I listen to the lament of a lone swallow

Suddenly all the trees begin to sway

As a brisk autumn wind begins to blow

And I now begin to wonder if this is the realm

Of beings who had tragically died here long ago

Soon the eerie dark forest takes on a life of its own

As a symphony of bird music echoes through the trees

Perhaps these birds have decided to serenade these spirits

As they wander this ancient woodland through all of eternity

As I eventually turn back on the wooded trail to head for home

Both these misty shadows and these echoing songs now follow me

And I’m glad that I revisited the place that little girl died 50 years ago

Since both these spirits and these songbirds seem to crave some company

I have always wondered why some spirits decide to stay here instead of leaving. It seems that there is a story of each of them and they all met with an untimely death. This is kinda eerie, Ed, but a captivating story just the same.
Take care,
Sherry

Love the Christmas tree shape to this, Ed... and the quote at the top... makes me think of Narnia! :)) Perhaps the little girl was Lucy and the bird her robin... you weave the natural and the supernatural so well in all your compelling narratives... is that it, Kate? No wise cracks or jokes? Umm... no, guess not. Feeling ultra-sensible tonight! :0 Famous last words... Kontrary Kate xx

lovely haunting music as one reads. So many memories stay with us - few of us can bring it out as well as you have done.

Ed a hauntingly beautiful walk in the forest! I hold similar moments
in my memory of woods I visited and heard tales of. It remains with us always, which makes me think there was silent communication in which they made their lasting impressions on our psyche! Thanks for sharing, loved it!
