She had run for her life in terror

The day Hurricane Katrina came

She was now lost starving and alone

Her life now would never be the same

She finally found some refuge

Under a deep dark overpass

But she was thirsty and hungry

Her will to live began fading fast

Luckily a kindhearted motorist

Spotted her hiding in the shadows

And she began leaving food and water

On her commute to work as she’d go

This dog had finally found a friend

This kind woman visited every day

But she truly fretted about this dog

Hoping to find her a home some way

So this woman eventually called us

And asked us if we could catch her

She had noticed this dog was injured

Having spotted blood on her matted fur

So we too began hiding there in the dark

Having set a live-trap with tasty food bait

And for this forlorn orphan to enter our trap

We truly didn’t have that very long to wait

The morning we caught this distraught dog

For us was truly very joyous and very grand

As we raced her off to our warm safe haven

I named this very frightened canine – Louizianne

Now the days and nights of fear and hunger

Are finally over for our very sweet Louizianne

And with just a little more compassion and luck

A new loving home in her future would be grand
