“Nature will bear the closest inspection.
She invites us to lay our eye level with her smallest leaf,
And take an insect view of its plain.”
Henry David Thoreau

In an Ecological Pecking Order
On the planet known as Earth
The many species of Invertebrates*
Are Extremely Significant
They are the key to continued life
And hold a most significant role
In the biological welfare of this planet
If Earth’s Invertebrates
Including Spiders Starfish and Ants
Ceased to exist tomorrow
Earth’s ecosystems
Would soon collapse
And quickly vanish
And the Earth
As we know it
Would cease to exist
ž
In an Ecological Pecking Order
On the planet known as Earth
The species known as Man is Insignificant
We add nothing biologically
And hold no significant role
In the welfare of this planet
Yet
We are by far
The largest consumers
Of its natural resources
And if all Mammals
Including Man
Ceased to exist tomorrow
The Earth would continue
ž
Makes one truly wonder
Which Species on Earth
Are truly the most important
Makes one truly ponder
What our role on Earth
Really is
And Who We Really Are
ž
Are We Really
God’s Children
His Chosen Ones
The Designated Planet Protectors?
If so
We have done
An extremely poor job
Of protecting this planet
Its natural resources
And its vital residents
Or
Are We Perhaps
Nothing More
Than Earth’s Parasites**?
Feeding off it
Polluting it
Harming it
Adding nothing of value
ž
And what if-
God
Or Mother Nature
Have now begun
A Massive Pest Control Campaign

*Biological Definition of an ‘Invertebrate’
Of the millions of species on Earth, more than 98% are invertebrates.
They don't have an internal skeleton made of bone;
Many of them have a fluid-filled, hydrostatic skeleton,
Like the jellyfish or worm;
And others have a hard outer shell,
Like insects and crustaceans.
And all of these invertebrates have essential roles
In maintaining the healthy functions and processes
Of Earth’s many varied ecosystems,
Both in, and on, its land and water.
Without these invertebrates, the Earth would die.
**Biological Definition of a ‘Parasite’
An organism that lives in or on a host,
From which it derives sustenance or protection,
Without benefiting this host at all,
And usually doing significant harm or damage to it.
"We add nothing biologically
And hold no significant role
In the welfare of this planet..."
But that can change if we lift the vibrations of this planet through our hearts developed by Sensitive Human Intelligence living according to the laws or Way of Nature, then we can add to the planet’s welfare! There is still hope we must believe for fear of becoming complacent!
Thank you this heartfelt and timely write!

I believe the pest control program is, indeed, well underway.

Each and every human being should read this and know this. They call themselves superior; to what are they superior?
Absolutely wonderful! I'd love to post this on every bulletin board and in every newspaper there is and send it to all the tv and radio stations too. Very awakening and I absolutely Love it!!

It's a disgrace how human beings choose to go for the worst in us rather than the best. The animal world and all the other life forms on the planet, mostly stick to what they were created to do. Yes, there may be some with aberrant behavior, but for the most part they follow Creator's plan. That is simply a fact that they live according to their breed/species and the instinctual blueprints implanted in them. Whereas, man was given a free will, to choose, so that love for God would be a choice and not a forced act. The question that should be asked is: Why did man choose all the lesser, most destructive kinds of behavior, instead of the more noble and good behavior that the Creator asked of us? He gave us all we would need to survive on this beautiful planet and we systematically are destroying it due to our choices of not believing Him, or choosing selfish-pursuits, greed, power, and all the other things we lust after, instead of His ways of unconditional love and grace.
The reason there is a book of Revelations in the Bible, is the very fact that God saw man's heart and sadly, saw what we would choose. Wrong over right!....Sorry Ed but you hit a nerve;-) Thanks for the info and for giving us this opportunity to vent;-)Superb write!

I love my dog but I have to stay two steps ahead of him as I would not like for him to rule me--It would be easy to become his slave-and sometimes I think I am as he does not work and it is me who has to take care of him
We are indeed doing an extremely poor job of protecting Earth. Yet most people carry on as if consuming the planet was our job, but it doesn't matter anyway because God loves us best and everything's okay, hey hey.
Powerful, thought provoker you have penned here; very well done!
(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(
We are God's chosen people, created in his image, unfortunatley Satan has a major role to play in the destiny of us all, and the dimension we inhabit at the moment.
And the Devil's tentacles are spreading around the globe, in the insidious breakdown of our environment by man's wilful pollution and abuse, moral and ethical decay, corruption and nepotism, and the advent of ravaging new diseases like Aids and Avian flu, and perhaps worst of all militant extremism hell bent on destroying the other half of creation !
I love that Thoreau quote, how very true, and the eyecatching graphic !

Thought provoking. Powerful. Kinda scary in a way...yes, I believe we're God's chosen people; we were created in His image. It's too bad that we've taken what He's given us and destroyed it; wiped out many species of the creatures He created; and are hellbent on killing our fellow brothers and sisters...makes one think. Thank you for writing this excellent piece.
