"Now that I'm all grown up,

I can buy any old Teddy Bear I want

- except the old Teddy Bear I want.”

William Sternman

There’s now another reason

I don’t like foggy mornings

They make it easier for thieves

To steal things without warning

He has been my old teddy bear

Since I was just a wee little tyke

And now old Smokey Bear is gone

Whisked away in the fog with delight

And I never heard one teensy little sound

As they skillfully grabbed him from his bed

And now all I have left of my old Smokey Bear

Are the wonderful memories etched into my head

My nasty wife thinks that this is hilariously funny

She always laughs at my attachment to my Smokey

But he was my very first extremely loyal old friend

And I’ve had that tattered old teddy since I was three

But my two devilish canine thieves Junior and Tater

Have been eyeing up old Smokey now for quite awhile

And the foggy morning cover gave them just their chance

To bury him somewhere in the yard with their devilish smiles

Now they’re both in hiding somewhere

And my wife is laughing much too hard

I’ve spent the last two days with my shovel

Trying to find him out in our fog-filled yard

And now the weather’s turning cold again

A bitter frost to my backyard it will bring

And I’ve suddenly and painfully now realized

I may not find my little Smokey until Spring

And I guess I’ll eventually forgive my dogs

I know they were just trying to have some fun

But I have a terrible blue foggy morning feelin

That my wife’s wicked laughter has just begun

Now that I’m all grown up,

I can buy any old Teddy Bear I want

- Except the old Teddy Bear I want.

And now, I’ve really really got

Those dog-gone Foggy Mornin Blues,

As I stand here in my freezing  yard, I wonder

My Little Smokey Bear, Where the Heck are You?

If My Wife Egged On Junior & Tater

Regis has asked, what is it about girls and horses? And I say, what is it about men and their... teddies. I am seriously outnumbered in my own matrimonial bed... Any space in your dogs' basket? I don't snore, honest... and could teach Junior and Tater some English manners... Nah, on second thoughts, playing hide and seek for Smokey sounds like darn good fun... :)) K xx

Great background music for this poem Mr. Ed. It makes me want to break out my old Les Paul and crank up the amp for a little jam session in honor of poor Smokey. Maybe Wilbur saw something...I would check with him and ask if he saw the thieves bury him. Great poem - he'll turn up.
