I used to work and slave for the government bureaucracy

Most of its leaders are arrogant and filled with hypocrisy

Their egos are insatiable; their pomposity immense

Their proclamations preposterous; their edicts offend

Our Nation’s Capital is filled with an immense Brain Fog

And most in power only care about being, ‘The Top Dog’

Many tourists love Washington, and regard it quite well

For me, spending any time there, was always sheer hell

Meeting after Useless Meeting – and nothing ever gets done

Except Pontificating and Jargonizing, hoping to please No. One

Hearing after Bloody Hearing - they must find someone to blame

But no one really cares about any results – it’s just a ‘Power Game’

And Memo after Lengthy Memo - meticulously drafted to inspire

Until a Bureaucrat up the Food Chain reads it, and starts to perspire

“Outrageous!  Don’t Say That, and Get My Name Off That Memo;

Don’t Rock the Boat – Ever - Staying The Course is the Way to Go.”

Our leaders are brain dead in efficient managerial ways

New ideas and new thoughts – are dismissed right away

The few bureaucratic projects that are actually timely and good

Pompous politicians take all the credit - yes, they certainly would

When a government project is bad, or oh so typically late

To blame government employees, they simply can’t wait

“It cannot be our fault; we are the noble gentry,

It must be the peasants; call out the sentries!”

They love to blame and to discipline and to dismiss

They are clueless on how to develop any national bliss

“But what about our veterans?

Let’s think outside the box.”

“What an imbecilic notion;

You are just a dumb, low level, ox.”

“We really better get organized,

Katrina is an enormous hurricane.”

“Will you just sit down and shut up already,

Why are you always such a god-damn pain?”

So almost every employee in this gigantic rank and file

Is first angry and bitter, then very apathetic after awhile

And bureaucratic middle-management is the worst place to be

From both ends - you will certainly catch Hell – very frequently

No one is happy; projects take forever and a day

Pity the poor taxpayer – who always has to pay

All those old government clichés are unfortunately true

And if you dwell on this topic, you’ll soon be quite blue

A few years ago, I decided I just had to get away

I just could not stand it – not even for one more day

Now, I’m finally a revitalized spirit, and quite ecstatic

Bureaucracies are pathetic – their policies the saddest

Now I’m a lot happier; very content to study the animal species

It’s exhilarating to finally smell – a whole different type of feces
