Today is the Great Backyard Campout

And I’ve been preparing for this for days

My wife hasn’t been too excited about it yet

But my four dogs wouldn’t miss it - no way

My mutts think my old tent’s nifty

They think it’s oh so very neat

Any chance that we get to camp

To them and me, is oh so sweet

Thousands of other happy folks

All across the good old U.S. of A.

Will be camping out in backyards

And today, June 23^rd, is the Big Day

But my lovely spouse, who is now rather pampered

Hasn’t shown very much interest at all in any of this

She doesn’t realize how truly great camping still is

Pitching a tent has always brought me so much bliss

There’s really nothing quite like camping out

Under the stars on a wondrous summer’s night

Whether in a wilderness area, or in a backyard

Camping for me is always such a huge delight
