“I thank you God for this most amazing day,
For the leaping greenly spirits of trees,
And for the blue dream of sky,
And for everything which is natural,
Which is infnite,
Which is yes.”
e.e. cummings
There once was a time in my life
When I didn’t appreciate the ‘yes’
There once was a time in my life
When I liked material things best
But as I’ve wandered along through life
My perspective has thankfully changed
Now I don’t care about the material things
My preferences in life have been rearranged
Now it’s the ‘yes’ things in life
That I now seem to treasure so
Now it’s the ‘yes’ things in life
That I marvel at wherever I go
There is one in my loving spouse’s smile
And in a good friend’s voice on the telephone
There is one in a shiny pebble on the lakeshore
I now seem to find these ‘yeses’ wherever I roam
They are in my flower garden
With its doves and sparrows
They’re in a deep blue river
As I stand wading its narrows
They’re in my vegetable garden
With its hot peppers and tomatoes
They’re in the red winged blackbird
Who perches on my old backyard pole
They’re in the dogs that faithfully follow me
Wherever I may happen to wander about now
And in the purring of my very contented felines
Who always seem to know the ‘yeses’ somehow
They’re the crickets I hear among the trees
As I joyously wander a green forested trail
They’re the tiny honey bees buzzing all about
They’re in the small slow moving garden snail
There’s definitely a ‘yes’ in the timber wolf’s howl
And in a flock of wild geese filling up the autumn sky
When I hear the magnificent wail of the northern loon
It’s ‘yes’ brings such a joyous sigh and a tear to my eye
They’re in the ancient song of the babbling brook
They’re in the glorious sun that gives life to earth
They’re in the billions of brilliant shining objects
That wondrously dot God’s magnificent universe
There are many ‘yes’ things yet to discover
And I now wonder just how many I will find
It’s amazing how concentrating on these ‘yeses’
Has been such a tremendous blessing to my mind

Brings to mind the last line of Joyce Kilmer's TREES:
"Poems are made by fools like me. But only God can make a tree."
Pax Tecum. Tom.
I couldn't agree more and I too
have no desire for material things.
Can I add anything but yes to this great poem. By far one of your best.

"yes" It's free and we all should possess a "Yes"
Truly with our hearts.

And in all this he gave to Adam and Eve domain and to protect all life on earth. It seems some of us have lost this mandate from God.
tribute to the true treasures in this world. Lovely and loving, with just the right amount of sweetening. Has to be your garden in the photo. Awwwwwwe-some!:) Reminds me of the song my favorite aunt used to sing, "Everywhere you go, sunshine follows you; everywhere you go, skies are always blue; children love you, they seem to know. . ."
