“He keeps it hidden,
Does not even mark the calendar,
Why does his birthday seem forbidden?”
An Excerpt from a Very Heartfelt Poem,
By Rufuz, The Canine Poet
Today marks the ancient birthday celebration
Of one of the most illustrious members of AD
Although he says he’s only in his early 50s
I know he has really lived for many centuries
He does not like a lot of publicity
He frowns at having his picture taken
He is truly a man of mystery and intrigue
And when he walks, the earth is often shaken
In the daylight hours, he lives in a very secluded motor home park
In New Jersey, somewhere in the vicinity of very quaint old Landisville
But at night – oh, at night - he often roams wild through the Pine Barrens
And anyone catching a glimpse of him there, will surely get quite a thrill
You see, during the sunny daylight hours
He wears a most clever clothing disguise
But at night – oh, at night - he runs naked
Through the deep dark Barrens with a smile
So please join me and his extremely loyal old pal, Rufuz
In giving ADs Ed Matlack, a Very Hardy Birthday Salute
And maybe – just maybe – if you dare wander those Barrens
You just might catch this very old rascal, in his Birthday Suit!
Happy, Happy Birthday, Bro,
You Sly Old Devil, You!
The Legend of the Jersey Devil
Emitting shrill, uninhibited, extremely ancient cries, and leaving his gigantic hairy footprints on mud, snow, and creek banks, it is said that The Jersey Devil has roamed the eerie Pine Barrens of South Jersey for at least 300 years.
He is said to resemble a composite of several different animals, but numerous eye witnesses claim he walks upright, and he’s even been spotted smoking some sort of ancient wild weed.
And although he is often associated with witchcraft and devil worship, some actually believe that The Jersey Devil is really an ancient guardian of both the pine forest and the eastern seashore.
It is even said by some knowledgeable old timers that he often diligently wanders the Pine Barrens on dark, moonless nights in the company of a very large, golden-haired dog.
And please be on the lookout for my exciting new ‘Jersey Devil’ comic book series, which will be hitting the worldwide web very soon – I already have dozens of orders for it – and I know it will be a Collector’s Item some day!
