A severe August heat wave

Now blanketing the Midwest

It’s zapping all of our energy

Making it so very hard to rest

Our insistent dogs start pestering

I look at the clock, not even dawn

They know a miracle is happening

It’s right outside, on our front lawn

I soon stumble to the bedroom window

Magnificent, cool raindrops on the panes

I quickly insist that my wife get out of bed

She quickly grumbles, curses, and complains

“You have to be out of your mind,

It’s not even light out yet, you Jerk!

Leave me alone, and go back to sleep,

Or get out of here, and go do some work.”

Don’t threaten me with love, Little Darlin,

Get dressed, and join us for a walk in the rain!

She gets that look in her eye, which I know so well

She jumps out of bed, “You know, you’re all insane!”

And very soon, the six of us are out wandering in the rain

What a marvelous, refreshing way to start our day off right

We pause on our path listening to the raindrops in the trees

Its life-giving moisture fills both humans and dogs with delight

And Very Soon, We’re All Now Dancin,

Out There, In That Wet, Wonderful  Rain;

My Dogs and I May Be Just a Little Crazy,
