She was found wandering the countryside

Searching for something, lost and all alone

We may never know where she comes from

No collar, tags, microchip, or number to phone

She may have traveled dozens of miles

She may be desperately searching for home

She may have been dumped in the deep forest

She may have wandered from her yard to roam

My neighbors have compassionately taken her in

She’s the sweetest of all canines, without a doubt

But she’s extremely restless, and misses someone

As she wanders all around the yard, pacing all about

My male dogs liked her almost immediately

After all, they’re three outgoing happy males

But she and my feisty little white Chihuahua

Are both aloof, like many mistrusting females

Everyone here has been referring to her as ‘Snowflake’

A most beautiful visitor, in this hot muggy month of August

But as I gaze into her extremely sad and deep set blue eyes

I hope she regains her happiness and her willingness to trust

Each and every time that I encounter a sad, lost animal

Like so many that were left behind after Katrina came

How I always wish that they could tell me their stories

Or at least bark out their address or their human’s name

If you, yourself, love and live with a companion animal

An extremely loving and loyal family member dog or cat

Please don't let them wander, and have them micro-chipped

Animals miss loved ones like we do; I’ve no doubt about that
