-->

Been Spending A Lot of Time

Down By My Old Cave Entrance,

Howling at the Moon, Pondering Life,

And Meeting Some Interesting Characters.

This Idea Was Inspired By My Dear Friend,

Kate Burnside, from Merry Old England,

And Her Very Recently Posted Poem,

‘I Want To Wash When I Meet a Poet’

“Poetry is not a civilizer,

Rather the reverse;

For great poetry appeals to the most primitive instincts.”

Robinson Jeffers

No Washing Will Be Necessary

At ‘The Creek Cave Poetry Recitals’

Just a True Love for Gritty, Unsanitized,

Avant Garde, Underground Poetry is Vital

I’ve Been Assembling Quite a Collection

Of Underground Poets Soon To Be Famous

Who Will Now Be Meeting on a Yearly Basis

To Hopefully Inspire Each and Every One of Us

Our new Poet Laureate is none other than old Stony

He has been reciting poetry underground here for years

We are also very fortunate to have with us, sage old Fang

A gargantuan Poet, whose biting words quickly bring tears

Then there is the up and coming old canine poet, Buckskin

Whose ‘It’s a Dog Eat Dog World’ poems are already legend

And he has convinced his best friend, Snaggle Tooth, to join us

His poetry will soon send you on a dark journey, that never ends

Then we have old Froggy, whose rancid pond poetry is renowned

And Monsieur Vincent Vampire Bat whose words bleed on the page

So we’re now inviting all courageous poets around the world to join us

We are hoping that the Annual Creek Cave Recitals will be all the rage

No bathing, showering, shaving, or deodorizing will be required here,

So please join us this weekend for Good Poetry, Bloody Marys, and Beer

Note To All You Avant Garde Female Poets:

You Don’t Have to Shave Your Legs or Armpits;

Just bring your unwashed poetic selves down here,

And your poetry, filled with all of life’s odors and grit

Note To All Cave Creek Poetry Recital Participants:

Buckskin Will Be Awarding Many Fabulous Door Prizes,

He Can Quickly Sniff Out A Real Poet, Any Day of the Week

Special Note:

We Will Also Be Inviting AD Poet Georg Mateos To Join Us,

Hoping He Will Do His ‘Eye Readings’ For Everyone in Attendance;

And Rumor Has It That the Infamous Poet, Jersey Devil, May Show Up,

If He Does, We Will All Be Blessed With Quite a Powerful Poetry Scent!

And A Special Request:

According to World Renowned Poet and Author G. K. Chesterton,

“Poets have been mysteriously silent on the subject of cheese.”

If Anyone Out There Writes Poetry About Cheese, Join Us, Please!

†2007, Mr. Pee Wee Ed

Hmm, I'm a bit behind on my reviewing and was just invited by Karen P. to write a poem or short story for the Creek Cave Poetry Recital...I'm about to leave for a cookout, but my thoughts will probably be on cheese, and not having to shave our legs...wow! I do like to camp out and roughing it as much as the next person...who knows what one may come up with the sky's the limit! Enjoyed this much, glad to know what the recital is about...I've been enjoying the poems!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

Good laaawwwwwwwwwwwwwd... Are we so very cheesy in dear ol Blighty?? :)) I can see I have a lot of catching up to do... let me see... my Feet Smell I can dig out from my 2004 library... that should be nice and ripe by now... I am working on one called The McDonald's Chef's Armpits right now which should be particularly savoury... Hold my slot... if not, I'll just post you an envelope of Turner's unwashed underwear (socks, mate, socks...) as a stand-in... they will speak for themselves and totally, totally knock'em dead.... OMG...what a cast of smelly miscreants, ne'er do wells and just plain good ole stinky poets. Sounds like quite a wonderful gathering, no rules, just right. Mayhaps we can get someone we know to bring his "Whine" to go with the cheese. Bet he won't show his face of scale, too afraid that it may Hale...LOL

This invite sounds like a whole lot of fun, perhaps as a spider named Charlotte to spin my web to trap all the cheese in. Gee, ya think??? Does sound interesting.......

The name of this wonderful recital should be "Cavern by the Stream" - has a bit of flair, don't you think. Can you see the flyers announcing this event? Hope you don't think it's a bit cheesy.

Your poetic flair for home-spun fun delights this gal's heart.

Count me in. On a serious note, why don't we plan on such an event, perhaps around Halloween next year, come in costume?

Ed, sounds like one of those meets where the people's odor draws a crowd and each one fights to sit by the most foul armpit. I would love to be among each of you because I don't want to miss out on any of the door prizes. Since I live in cow country, the scent from cleaning out the barn still lingers on my cloths and my dip of snuff often drips down my chin onto my clothes...am I welcomed?

Reviewed on September 27, 2007
Are you giving away a sexy caveman as a door prize? I'll be there as the old Ray Steven's Ahab song says, with rings on my fingers, bells on my toes and a bone in my nose, ho ho.

Think Sylvester has a new goal in life, since he left his wallet at the Vet, ah well, he's not getting all belted up like before, is rather a sooky boy now LOL

Count me in, love caving, batty bats, but as for that Jersey Devil, MAN we will smell the sweet aroma long before he appears hehe.

I had both a bath and a shower last night. If I don't bath again I may be able to make it. But I haven't heard any poems about cheese... Hmm, I wonder why? Limburgh, Gorganzola, Brie, Swiss, Cheddar, PepperJack, Cottage cheese, Cream cheese, cheese slices wrapped in cellophane. Now I know why I don't write cheese poems, they make me hungry!
Love this, count me in. A high school study hall poem I'll write!
