Today, we celebrate ‘Boss’s Day’

And, it’s ‘The Day of the Feral Cat’

It also marks my father’s 90^th Birthday

And all three are related, as a matter of fact

I used to work as a manager at a government facility

And I used to buy my bureaucrat boss lunch today

Until he gave me a reprimand for helping feral cats

That’s when I lost all respect for him, in every way

And at many of my father’s birthday celebrations

I would give him a cute feral kitten as a birthday gift

Dad would howl, telling me I should give it to my boss

As an old veteran, he loved when I gave bureaucrats a fit

I eventually helped rescue quite a few extremely deserving felines

And since I urged others to help them, I was banned from the facility

The D.C. bureaucrats were outraged that I ignored their ‘kill policies’

And with each reprimand that I got, I laughed at all of them with glee

I really miss my dear old father, now that he’s no longer with us

But I don’t miss my cranky old government bureaucratic boss at all

I’ve never met a bureaucrat with an ounce of humor or compassion

And each time I mention his name, one of my cats spits up a furball

I mail the best ones to my old boss

But he never, ever, writes back to me

I guess he will just never get over the fact

On Boss’s Day, his lunches are no longer free

Very sadly today, at most government facilities

Feral cats and other creatures, just trying to survive

Are now hunted down, poisoned, trapped, and drowned

And I believe it’s much better, trying to help them stay alive
