Music by James Price Johnson,

Snowy Morning Blues

“Love is no assignment for cowards.”

Ovid

I woke up far too early yesterday mornin

With those god-awful snowy mornin blues

And when I peered out our bedroom window

I decided to just stay in bed and play it real cool

But Mean Tall Woman had other ideas,

“I hope staying in bed isn’t your plan;

You’ll have to shovel out our driveway,

So get your butt up now, Little Big Man.”

So I dragged my old body outa bed

And I got bundled up pretty quick

And I shoveled that driveway real fast

Thinkin that I was oh so cleverly slick

And as I proudly surveyed my work

There was joy in my weary old eyes

I could now head straight back to bed

So I let out a very mellow mornin sigh

But just as I was happily cruisin back on inside

I heard a voice that quickly filled me with dread

“Hey, Little Big Man, old Widow McElroy called,

Shovel her out, too, before heading back up to bed.”

So when I finished with Mrs. McElroy’s drive

Of course I had to shovel out Mrs. Smith’s too

And by the time I finally cruised back on home

I was really wailin out the Snowy Mornin Blues

“So, how was your morning, Little Big Man?”

I was real tempted to smack her over the head

But I just looked at my spouse and sighed,

“Just fine, Mean Tall Woman, just fine,

And now, I’m really headin back up to bed.”

I woke up too god-awful early yesterday mornin

With those dreaded back achin, snowy mornin blues

And when I peered out our snowy bedroom window

I should’ve known I’d never get a snowy mornin snooze

In deference to her Native American heritage

I affectionately call my spouse ‘Mean Tall Woman’

And in deference to my very lofty status around here

She very often lovingly refers to me as ‘Little Big Man’

Ain’t true love, truly grand?!

At least my mutts consider me to be ‘Top Dog’

It seems that canines have far more respect…

Clever poem. Couldn't help but think back to when my sons were young and they shoveled snow for our elderly neighbors. Not their idea, mine. Wonder if I'm related to your wife! lol

Love the music. I imagine snow falling as you're shoveling. Sorry.

God bless you. Kathy

But of course, is there any other way to be?? Oh yes, love can be and is and forever beautiful thing. Say don't you have a snow blower and plow??

Be safe,
Karen

LOL And winter is just beginning...LOL There will be plenty more snowy mornin' blues. Shovel the drive, keep your woman happy (as well as the neighbors). Just thought of something...after coming in from the cold, you could put your cold hands on her...nevermind, she's gonna bury me and cover me with ants, tell her it was just a thought. If you get in trouble, blame me. *heehee* well done, Ed.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Watch your back--lots of breaks--drink plenty of liquids. Dr. Dorman. LOL
