After Another Round of Gun Violence

On Our School Campuses,

I Sadly Learn About This.

It Gets Harder Every Day,

To Maintain a Little Bliss.

"A National Park will be an island of safety in this riotous world.

Splendid forests, the waterfalls that leap in glory,

The wild flowers that charm and illuminate the earth,

The wild sheep of the sky-line crags,

And the beauty of the birds and the beasts.

All will have places of refuge,

Which our national parks will provide."

As our National Park System is being desecrated

And our wild animals have nowhere else left to hide

A Senator now wants to allow loaded weapons in our parks

As a nation, whatever happened to our sanity, and to our pride

Senator Coburn (R-Oklahoma) is gleefully pushing his agenda

Which will make it much easier for poachers to kill park animals

It will also make a Park Ranger’s job more difficult and harrowing

Allowing loaded guns where our children camp – now I’ve heard it all

Many powerful interest groups today want to exterminate wild animals

And they want our national parks to be torn apart, piece by bloody piece

I still want a National Park System, where both people and animals are safe

Wondrous wild places, I can still take a Cub Scout, or my own nephew or niece

Many of our so called ‘leaders’ and special interest groups today will not rest

Until all of our forests, wild animals, and once revered national parks are gone

But to leave our once great nation barren and empty, for our future generations

To me is truly Un-American, and frankly, it’s so god-damned, morally wrong

Coburn’s Asinine National Park Amendment Will:

Make Poaching of Remaining Park Wildlife Much Easier

Change the Relationship between Park Rangers and Visitors

Create Many New Safety Hazards For Our Very Own Children

Leave Us With a Barren and Artificial America Sooner Than Need Be

Twenty-Nine Species of American Wildlife,

Are Today, Already on the Very Brink of Extinction;

Just How Many Will We Be Satisfied With Killing Off?

And The Senator, In His Infinite Wisdom,

Claims Our National Parks Are a Dangerous Place;

But Now Knowing That the Folks Camping Next To Me,

Are Fully Armed, Will Definitely Not Make Me Feel Safe.

Kite Flying is Currently Prohibited,

Along a Parcel of National Park Land,

Adjacent to Washington’s National Airport;

Since Kite Flying Might Pose a Threat to Aircraft.

If Coburn’s Truly Barbaric Amendment Passes,

Loaded Guns Will Be Allowed In The Same Spot,

But Not Our Extremely Dangerous Kites.

The Way Our Nation is Heading Today,

Should Truly Fill All of Us, With Fright.
