The Marine and the Dog

They met one day in Iraq

And soon, for the both of them

They knew there’d be no turning back

The dog’s ears had been cut

So the Marine named him Nubs

And he began feeding his new friend

Very soon, they were the best of buds

On patrol one day the Marine again saw Nubs

His good pal had been wounded by someone

So the Marine nursed the dog back to health

But then duty called, and the Marine had to run

This very grateful desert dog named Nubs

Now began following this Marine’s Humvee

And soon, he showed up at the Marine’s base

This dog had tracked him 65 miles in the heat

The Marine was told he had to get rid of the dog

But true soldiers will never leave their friends behind

The Marine soon arranged to ship Nubs home to his family

I love happy soldier and dog stories, they’re my favorite kind

Nubs the Dog, arrived in San Diego yesterday.

The Marine’s family and friends had helped him

Raise enough money to get his new pal to the States.

And these two very good friends will be re-united next month,

When This valiant Marine’s tour of duty in Iraq is finally over.
