I have written a few poems about him before

This brave old friend of mine from New Orleans

His two back legs were paralyzed in the hurricane

Even though he’s a ‘Pit Bull’ he never turned mean

He spent several long months in a veterinary hospital

Then he was brought to our rescued pet center in town

And even though this courageous canine could not walk

He was one of the happiest souls I had ever been around

Many of us fell in love with this dog because of his spirit

He loved playing fetch scooting after a ball on his behind

For many of us he became the symbol for all the survivors

They all truly wanted to live and find some love of some kind

A kind hearted soul eventually bought him a dog scooter

And now my friend learned to run again never once afraid

He soon joyously marched along with several other animals

In an extremely gala Mardi Gras Rescued Dog and Cat Parade

Last year I heard some marvelous news about my old pal Red

He had found his permanent home with a woman named Diane

Which makes this old dog lover very happy for this marvelous mutt

He deserves all the very best in life – he truly is a creature most grand

Yet, many of his canine kind are now under a truly unjustified attack
