Music: I’ll Stand By You
I really appreciated my friend Kate’s response
On my very disheartening poem, entitled ‘Lost’
We will all have to stop citing our many excuses
If we want a better tomorrow, regardless of cost
When I worked for our uncaring bureaucracy
A paraplegic vet in a wheelchair came to see me
He showed me the black bananas he got for breakfast
And my bosses told me to forget it, that saved us money
Like Kate’s son, I still felt a need to do something about it
So, I began raising holy hell in the hospital’s kitchen, one day
Of course, I received yet one more reprimand to hang on my wall
But what significance was a reprimand, to what that vet had to pay
When I retired, because I couldn’t take that bureaucracy anymore
I quickly decided to help wild animals, in any small way that I could
When my neighbors hired contractors to kill our opossums and raccoons
I would snatch their traps, and release these innocent critters in the wood
Of course, I was now ‘branded’ in my neighborhood
And I was fined by the Association, and called names
But I truly and honestly felt much better about myself
And if I still lived in that nasty place, I’d do the very same
When Katrina roared in, I was told by my writing group, to ‘just write about it’
I was informed we were ‘writers, not rescuers,’ and I should just leave it alone
I won’t be getting any more awards from that group, and none of them ever call
But I don’t give a damn; I’m glad I rescued many animals and found them homes
As I now wander forests, factories, and city alleys trying to help feral felines
I’m often harassed by people, and the police have stopped me on many a day
I was reported as a ‘prowler,’ at the factory where I found my cat, Valentine
An Officer came to my home to arrest me; yet, I am still a pet advocate today
(Thankfully, he was very understanding, and an animal lover, too.)
If you are passionate about a certain cause or causes, like Kate’s son is
You’ll have to lay your many excuses aside, and now follow your heart
I truly believe every one of us has to start rolling up our sleeves to help
If we somehow hope to give Earth, people, and animals, at least a start

Ed, I cannot tell you how proud I am of you,, Your book "Through Katrina's Eyes" is a must read for all. You have made such a difference from your caring Soul! My oldest daughter Jessie Rae,, 23, Has been giving of herself for 10 years now,, I could not begin to tell you what she has done,, can only tell you I have tears of pride.

Last night, just watched Documentary, "WAR MADE EASY" - narrated by Sean Penn - it openly shows exactly how the "War Machine" is promoted through outright PROPAGANDA, throughout America's History, going all the way back to WWI.
Pesident after President, Administration after Administration, LIE - LIE - LIE to get us involved, and the BACKBONE-LESS MEDIA jumps right on board. Anyone who does have the courage to QUESTION, gets labeled as "UN-Patriotic, or even Traitor."
OH - how I wish EVERY AMERICAN could simply WATCH this film, and draw their own conclusions! As exasperating as it all is, sometimes I have to wonder - is WAR simply a natural PURGING done by MAN on purpose, to reduce, or control OVER-POPULATION?
The statistics shown in this film disclose that the over-whelming biggest LOSSES are that of the INNOCENT CIVILIAN POPULATION! And the ONLY war that had a majority of SUPPORT of the Homefront, from Beginning to End was WWII ...
THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR EVIL - NONE !!! TOM.
