Seventh in the ‘Ed’ Series,

‘When We Ancient Eds Were-’

My Ed Photo Albums Go Back a Long Ways,

And a Fond Memory or Two, They Always Stir

We were now south of the border, down old Mexico way,

That's where Brother Edvard took the three of us one day;

As I look at this billboard, my thoughts have again strayed,

To way down south of that border, down old Mexico way

It wasn’t long after good old Gene Autry had let us Eds go

We had been ridin those cold, old, freight trains once more

We three Brothers Ed woke up in a boxcar in Mexico City

And soon, found ourselves behind a restaurant’s back door

Old Brother Edvard was a real fast talker in Spanish

Before we knew it, he had gotten us a brand new gig

Somehow, he had very quickly convinced the owner

That in the United States, we three Eduardos were Big

So the delighted restaurant owner had hired us immediately

And he had this painting plastered on signposts, all over town

Los Tres Antiguos Eduardos would be serving meals, while singing

And the old restaurant owner promised the best entertainment around

Well, of course, good old Jersey Ed and I could speak so very little Spanish

Let alone sing any candlelit dinner, extremely romantic, old Spanish melodies

And alas, when Brother Jersey tripped coming down the stairs, delivering a meal

On our very first night, the owner yelled, “You’re Fired! Now Adios, You Eddies!”

Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay (Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay)

Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay (Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay)

Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay (Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay)

Good bye, Good bye, Good bye

We were now south of the border, down old Mexico way,

That's where Brother Edvard took the three of us one day;

As I look at this billboard, my thoughts have again strayed,

To way down south of that border, down old Mexico way

And A Very Happy Cinco de Mayo, To One and All
