I thank God that I was able to view our natural glories
I thank God that I have visited most of our national parks
A day has dawned, filled with bulldozers and drilling tools
An era has now begun that will be extremely barren and dark
Over half of our life- giving wetlands are already gone
Over half of our glorious, air purifying, forests are, too
And today, even our red rock canyons are under siege
Which makes an old nature lover like myself very blue
In our now escalating quest for timber, gas, and oil
Our ‘leaders’ are sacrificing the futures of our children
One day, they’ll awaken to a foul smelling, flattened land
And the once god-given beauty of America will be at an end
Our leaders are allowing the destruction of wetlands for shopping malls
Our forests are being ravaged, for the junk mail advertisements we trash
Plans are now being made to destroy places like Utah’s Zion National Park
So oil and gas company profits can continue to soar and our leaders get cash
It’s a little harder to ravage all of our once extremely pristine, natural splendors
When plants, animals, or landscapes are designated ‘protected’ or ‘endangered’
So today, special interest groups and politicians, are busily removing these labels
And we, the people, of this once great nation, on behalf of our children, never stir
The proposed decimation of Utah’s wondrous ancient red rock canyons
Is just one more example of today’s ever increasing gluttony and greed
It’s one more example of what the future holds for our future offspring
We, the people of this nation, have let them down, in their time of need
I thank God that I was able to view our natural glories
I thank God that I have visited most of our national parks

Soon, Most of Our Nation’s Wildlife and Natural Splendors, Will Be Gone;
And I For One, Weep For Future Generations, And Their Very Bleak Dawn
Nearly 11 million acres of public land in Utah will soon be ‘under siege.’ And these are now roadless areas surrounding once revered Canyonlands, Zion, and Arches National Parks, with their iconic red sandstone spires, 1,000-foot cliffs, magnificent plateaus and meandering narrow canyons, and spectacular stretches of the Colorado, Dolores, and Green Rivers.
Native rock carvings in these areas are more than a thousand years old, and they contain many ancient cultural artifacts that will soon be lost for all time.
Also at tremendous risk are critical habitats for a wide range of our endangered wildlife in and around these national parks.
The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska is already under attack, and these two examples are just the sad beginning – of a very grim end.
Many Today Believe That Our Demise
Will Eventually Come About From Global War;
I Believe That It Will Be Our Never Ending Quest
For Earth’s Finite Resources – We Now Lust For Them,
Like Never Before, and We Will, Until There Are No More

Not only have I witnessed our beautiful wetlands disappearence
But the senseless killing of the creatures within, I saw a whole family of Otters (5 of them) heads bashed in displayed on amound
of dirt by the side of the road, for all to see, as I pointed the disgracefulness of it all to my wife, a tear rolled down the side of my eye

The Barnett Shale [natural] Gas Boom (Google this)...in Ft. Worth and Arlington? In the middle of the cities! Within 800 ft. of residential areas! And residents are going for it because the $$$$$ Seems the greed has trickled down. Watch out for the BIG BOOM yet to come...and we wonder from which the sink-holes come...

This is so serious. Yes I do hear you, I have been preaching here in Connecticut for years now. No one seems to listen/care (politicians). We elect them to do what is best for us, and look what is happening. It is heart wrenching and dismaying. We really need a peace revolution.
