She was already eight years old
When I found her there that day
I was volunteering at an animal shelter
She tugged at my heart strings right away
When I soon picked her up to clean her cage
She clung to my chest, and she wouldn’t let go
She’d been abandoned in a high rise apartment
And her very sad plight, quickly touched me so
She was already scheduled to be euthanized
Hardly anyone ever adopted such an old feline
So I quickly told the shelter I was taking her home
I think Miss Gabriella already knew that she was mine
And she quickly became one of our most endearing felines
I soon started calling her ‘Gabby’ because she loved to chat
She would so lovingly wait for me at the front door every day
And she became such a delightful part of our home just like that
And Gabriella very quickly found feline love again
She became enamored of our handsome tabby, Buddy
She would follow Buddy around, everywhere he went
Just being in the same room with him, filled her with glee
Our dear old Miss Gabby lived to the ripe old age of eighteen
For ten wonderful years, she graced all of us with her presence
And she taught me that even elderly cats deserve a second chance
