Toxic Stew

Poem Artwork

“Pollution is the Forerunner,

Of Perdition.”

John Trapp

It is twice the size of Texas

This toxic stew, within the sea

A vast, swirling, vortex of plastic

Horrendously made, by you and me

Billions of tons of our garbage

Killing billions of sea creatures

Destruction of our home planet

Our modern day legacy’s feature

Some wonder why salmon are vanishing

Or why sea birds are now dying en mass

One day soon, our offspring will curse us

For leaving them a toxic stew that will last

And this plastic never disappears

We end up ingesting it, ourselves

Besides killing the animals and fish

It is becoming our own internal hell

Over 80 percent of it comes from our shores

And it gathers between California and Hawaii

God so graciously gave us so many bountiful gifts

Which are horrendously decimated by you and me

Our so called ‘leaders’ and corporations could care less

Hell, in plastics, there is tons of money, still to be paid

But what a horrific price we are asking of our offspring

In this deadly, toxic, plastic, modern world we have made

This toxic stew is called The Great Pacific Garbage Patch

And there are several others, about which we now know

Many still haughtily claim that we’re not killing our planet

You decide for yourself, after watching this horrific video

Ed, good write, throwing away one plastic wrapper or soda pop container makes a huge difference in the amount of total waste, toxic and all that increases every day.

Dan

Watched Al Gores presentation An Inconvenient Truth", nuffin i didn't know already, just the extent of it though was sad, and that was done in 95...I'm almost scared to watch ur link, but I will. I believe as you know, it will get cleaned...Not in a way many want to think about, but it's not our planet to destroy, I believe an intervention is soon coming. Dunno wot I'd do without that belief frankly. Thanks Ed, blessings to yah.

A powerful and informative write my friend...we are seeing from coast to coast...our precious mother earth, wildlife, and human life all suffering for ignorance of humans! Prayer our nation, leaders, and society need prayer now more than ever before! Write on dear friend as your voice is being heard!
Blessings,

Great informative poem, Ed! You and Bro Georg (article) are on the same wave-length, today! Your poem exposes the outright stupidity of poluters, not just in our country, but around the world! Wonder how many will remember about throwing a gum-wraper out their car window, or straw from their drink; the small all add up to BIG! Thanks for this reminder...and pray that people heed our words...
Blessings and Love ~~ Micke

What a shame as I wonder about the generations to come and how they will survive. Far too many just don't care to do what needs to be done and it appears that everyone THINKS it isn't their concern.. Thank you for sharing one of the most important topics Ed.

Problem is, no one cares anymore - apathetic - sad state of affairs. What God must think of His creation, man, destroying the home He gave them -

Ed, what's it going to take to wake up our government to the fact that we are destroying Mother Earth and it's affecting our health. Your writes are written with such compassion and truths. I hope many will read this and take some necessary actions. You are an inspiration to the world for your writings.

Oh Ed, You are so right to keep showing us this horrific waste and destruction of our Mother Earth...I have seen such evidence here in Virginia, eyeopening, and heart wrenching to witness human wasteful ness and destruction.
Much peace, love, and light,

Ed, it is such a terrible thing when the constituents of this country see the sickness of our planet that they have made and want to do something, but don't know what. It's like Ed M. said: "What can be done to stop it?" We are no more than simple peons, the majority of us following laws, and when there is no law, we use and abuse.

I read how unhealthy it is to store food in plastics or heat things in the mircorwave that is in plastic, so I went to the grocery store to find glass containers to use. There weren't any. The nearest thing I could find was canning jars--which, by the way, are great because they take up less space in the refrigerator.

Anyway, to change the destruction of this planet, our government must take a stand and do something about it. We are told that instead of complaining we should cast our vote for officials who will make a difference--that old phrase is a farce. We cast our vote and little is done to change the runaway destruction.

Our earth is becoming like an old house that goes to ruin because no one bothers to keep it up---until finally, it is demolished. Is that the destiny of our world?

Sad to think that such marvellous technology that can create all this ingenuous packaging has still not come up with a way to rid the world of it's by products.

How sad is this??,,,,I think the creators of this stew need to clean the POT!!! Unfortunatley too many create a mess and leave it for others with out a blink of an eye, killing so much along the way.

A quite few years back sailing from Genova (Italy) to Istambul (Turkey) we needed to sail 150 nautic miles around our way to avoid an enormous floating island of plastic bags from a busted container ship that spewed all its cargo on the sea, we couldn't sail through it because that damn past would have clogged all our cooling water intakes.
Wonder where are that zillion of plastic bags now, but not fear, the lost was probably replaced promply, they couldn't lost money, could they?

But, the question is, what can be done to stop it? As you and I read this we will try to fix the problem from our end...I ALWAYS pick up stuff that is on the beach, trash, plastic, alluminum and deposit it a trash receptacle...& still the next day, more trash is just left on the beach to be sucked out to sea at high tide...humans are just dirty and don't care...Ed & Rufuz
