Is An Endangered Amur Leopard;
Horrendously, Only About 30 of Them
Remain in the Forests of Russia, Today
Extremely sad days have now arrived on our planet
One more earth species vanishes now, every 20 minutes
This is a pace a thousand times faster than ever in history
Every 20 minutes, another plant, animal, or insect is finished
The two main reasons for this extremely horrendous situation
Are natural habitat destruction and Earth’s rapid climate change
Every 20 minutes or so, we destroy another 1,200 acres of forest
And every 20 minutes, ocean garbage increases its strangling range
Every 20 minutes now, on this very rapidly dying planet of ours
We now spew 180,000 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere
If we don’t start making a conscious concerted effort to reverse things
There will soon come a day, that everyone on this planet, will truly fear
As our world’s climate, landscapes, and oceans rapidly change for the worse
Every 20 minutes, yet another god-given gift disappears from our Mother Earth
What will you be thinking about in the next 20 minutes, after reading this sad tale
In the 20 minutes it took me to pen and post this, my soul has been robbed of mirth
Our Forests
Every year now, we are losing over 32 million acres of forest – an area equal to the size of England. And every acre lost, was once home to a rich variety of god-given plant, animal, and insect life.
Human activity is the main cause of Earth’s massive deforestation, and it is tied to economic development, rapidly increasing consumption rates – in both developed and developing countries – and modern day industries such as logging, mining, and drilling.
Earth’s once pristine jungles, boreal forests, and wildlife refuges are now being burned down and bulldozed flat for farming, for ranching, and for more and more housing developments and industrial complexes. Our cities and villages are ever expanding, prompting yet more urban development that supplants yet more of our forests, and routes out yet more of our wildlife. Loggers extract more trees today than our planet’s forests can reproduce, destroying entire ecosystems, and leaving behind yet more roads that invite more exploitative forces.
And this enormous woodland loss is now irreplaceable. Our forests are home to more than half of all the remaining plants and animals on Earth, and their continued destruction means the extinction of countless more plant and wildlife and insect species, many of them still unknown to science.
Our Oceans
Our exploding human population is now also wreaking havoc on Earth’s oceans. The amount of marine life we are extracting today to feed our ever growing numbers is astronomical, and most of our modern day fishing methods – the use of dynamite, bottom trawling, cyanide fishing, and other techniques – are causing enormous damage to current and future worldwide fish stocks, and to the underwater world in which they once thrived.
Today, 90 percent of the oceans’ top predators are already gone. Entire populations of fish, and the vast array of underwater communities that they supported, have already collapsed. Much of our seafloor now looks like a war zone. Once colorful, life-filled, ancient ocean coral beds have now been scraped away and bleached a deadly white by bottom trawling and toxic chemical runoff. Dead Zones – vast swaths of ocean areas devoid of oxygen that can no longer support any life at all – are spreading throughout Earth’s entire marine realm.
And our endless array of very callously discarded plastic garbage is most definitely on the rise, and it will continue to pollute, and expand, and choke all of our oceans a little more, each and every day, until there is very little life left in any of them.
