“There's something in a flying horse;

There's something in a huge balloon.”

William Wordsworth

There is ‘something’ indeed

In soaring in a huge balloon

Every time that I go up in one

It’s always over much too soon

Lift off is always very spectacular

Gliding through the air, truly superb

Viewing God’s Creation, from above

Extremely difficult to describe in words

I have soared over woods and waters

I have glided over majestic desert lands

I have viewed His truly wondrous wildlife

And His earthly landscapes so very grand

I much prefer balloons, over airplanes

They go too fast, to enjoy all the scenery

Give me a balloon, just above the treetops

Give me a bird’s eye view, with which to see

I have soared over buffalo on the prairies

I have spotted a mountain lion, near his lair

Ballooning has made me appreciate Creation

Such spectacular gifts, He gave us down there

A mother bear, leading her cubs to a lakeshore

A joyous group of antelope, frolicking on a hillside

Sun-ripened apples, ready to be picked and enjoyed

A man in a tiny boat, teaching his son to fish with pride

If we human souls can somehow be re-incarnated

I want to come back, as a tiny feathered bird on wing

What spectacular views these flight-blessed beings have

It’s not surprising that most birds truly know how to sing

There is ‘something’ indeed,

In soaring in a huge balloon;

Every time that I go up in one,

It’s always over, much too soon.

And I now sincerely believe,

That if we human beings could fly,

We would not destroy nature, so callously;

Destruction below, must also make birds cry.

I see these hot air balloons while fishing in the woods and I always wish I could be up there to share with those flying even in their conversatios as I could almost hear them..

This is beautiful. I think you did an excellent job on describing what you saw in the great blue yonder and the rhyming is great, too! Very well done!

I imagined myself having wings! Such beautiful visuals. I don't think I would have the courage to go up in the balloon, but oh to soar like a bird! Beautiful ~ Hugs, Elizabeth

Balloons fly by hot air dodn't they? so how come that those hot-air heads in Washington's White Teepee aren't flying high and see the bad things happening for the things they are doing?

Ed, I absolutely loved this beautiful journey and enjoyed visiting the many gifts God gave to this world to enjoy. There were so many beautiful visual images that it lit up my mind to the hilt. I've never been up in a balloon but I'll bet it is a marvelous site. I enjoyed this exceptional write.

Oh yes! It is beautiful. I had a friend take me and my son up in a hot air balloon once. Such beauty when you are looking down at the mountain from high above it.
Beautiful write.
God Bless,
Lew

I am with you on this, Ed. Perhaps if we could see the vastness of our destruction we would take heart and stop killing our planet. There are balloons in the sky nearly every morning here; quietly going on their way enjoying the view. Great write.
Take care,
Sherry

I've never been up in a balloon, but I've admired them many times. Your poem has some wonderful images of things you've seen from up above.

Wishing you could fly reminds me of the book by James Patterson called The Lake House where several children were genetically modified so they were born with wings. A bit farfetched, but he almost makes the story believable.

Your poem was an enjoyable read.

You have been an Angel to all your critter friends, so I am sure your bird friends will lend you some feathers for when you come back to keep watch on all of them, bless you, a beautiful poem!

Ed, excellent write and the picture is awesome too. I have not ridden a hot air balloon, but I'd bet that it is a hoot.

Ed,

You're way braver than I - rode in a hot air balloon. Once. Got about 20 feet up in the air, I looked down, said, "Put it back." When questioned, I said, "There's waaaaay too much air under me and the ground." LOL I'll let others do the flying - it's not for me. My twin sis said it best: don't trust a wicker basket. LOL Still and all, bet it's pretty from up there - I just can't do it! Excellent write.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Sounds like a peaceful way to spend the day, appreciating God's beauty from the air; however, I don't relish the thought of sitting in a small wicker basket with flames shooting upwards. Don't like fire anyway, and what if something would happen when I was up in the air?? I'll keep my feet on the ground, thankyewverymuch! LOL Still, all in all, a beautiful, peaceful write full of tranquility! Very nice, Ed; bravo!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :D
