What if God Was One of Us?
This homeless veteran
Is most definitely, one of us
And he was far braver, than most of us
But now, he’s just a vagabond on our streets
With absolutely nowhere left, to call his home
He now wanders our streets, all alone
We abandoned him, when he got home
And how I pray, for a much brighter day
When I won’t have to pen this kind of poem
Over 200,000 homeless veterans today
Over 2,000 already, from our war in Iraq
And, there will soon be far more of them
When more of our valiant veterans get back
Oh, how we love to send them off to war
And, how most of us forget them, so quickly
Many of them suffer from post traumatic stress
And they cannot find their niche again, so easily
Our government never did very much for him
And as he sadly wheels himself down the street
Most of us, will not even look him in the eyes
All he sees, is our hurriedly rushing passed feet
He’s all alone, and he doesn’t know what he’ll eat
And tonight, he’s got absolutely nowhere, to sleep
And yet, he is definitely one of our own
But he can’t even afford, to ride the city bus
And we completely ignore him, in our own rush
As the rest of us, all hurry along, to our cozy homes
And we eat our nice dinners, and we watch our T.V.s
While vets like him, sacrificed everything, for you and me
This sad, hungry, homeless, veteran,
Is most definitely, one of our very own,
And he was far, far braver, than most of us;
But today, he is alone, on our mean city streets,
With absolutely nowhere left, he can call his home.
If You Spot One of Us, Today,
Please Stop, and At Least Say ‘Hello;’
A Kind Word Can Actually Mean A Lot,
To Someone Who Has Lost - Everything.

If all the VETs marched on D.C. "THEY" would all find a reason to be ABSENT that day!
My suggestions:
1. STOP the top 25 Officials of Fanny Mae & Freddie Mac from paying themselves $1,000,000 salary per year = $25,000,000 for VETS!
2. Then FINE those greedy bastards ANOTHER $1,000,000 EACH for PAST SCREWINGS =
ANOTHER $25,000,000 = NOW $50,000,000 FOR VETS!
3. $50,000,000 Divided by 200,000 = only leaves $250. each!
4. FINE - EXXON, CITGO, AMOCO, SUNOCO - $1,000,000,000 EACH = 4 BILLION $ =
another $20,000 for each VET = That $20,250 each does not even put a dent in what they are owed! it isn't even equal to ONE YEAR'S SALARY!
5. STOP the $1 Donation for Presidential Election Funds - IMMEDIATELY =
NO 82 MILLION $ FOR MCCAIN !! CHANGE THAT $1 FOREVER FOR VETERANS! AND I'LL BET EVERY TAXPAYER WILL THEN CHECK THAT BOX!
6. FORCE BOTH CONGRESS & THE ADMINISTRATION MEMBERS TO MEMORIZE THE MILITARY CODE OF CONDUCT! CUT ALL THEIR SALARIES IN HALF & GIVE TO VETS FUND!
7. CHANGE NATIONAL BUDGET TO LINE ITEMS - and every day, every time any money is SPENT on military, for any reason - 10 PERCENT (like tithing) MUST BE PUT ASIDE FOR VETERANS FUND!
8. RESCIND ANY & ALL LAWS & EXCEPTIONS ON THE BOOKS - THAT ALLOW GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS TO 'HIDE AWAY' THEIR OWN SONS & DAUGHTERS FROM MILITARY SERVICE!
IF THERE IS WAR - THEN THEY GO FIRST - TO THE FRONT LINES!
9. LIMIT ALL TERMS OF ALL GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS AT EVERY LEVEL TO TWO TERMS! PERIOD! TWO TERMS - GET YOUR GRAFT & GET IT FAST - 'CAUSE THEN YOU ARE O-U-T !!!
10. ALL MONIES FROM ALL LOBBYISTS, FOR ANY AND ALL REASONS - ALL GOES INTO VETERANS FUND! ANY CONGRESS-PERSON CAUGHT TAKING ANY MORE GRAFT GETS LIFE IMPRISONMENT IN ABU GRAIBE, OR GITMO !!! NO EXCEPTIONS!
YES - my Friend, it is all a "Pipe Dream" - but CHRIST - IT SOUNDS GOOD!
