The word ‘Perdita’ is of Latin origin, and its meaning is ‘Lost.’
William Shakespeare cleverly named his young heroine ‘Perdita,’
In his play, ‘The Winter’s Tale,’ because as a baby, she was left to die,
By her own father, the King, who thought she was another man’s child.
Luckily, she was found and rescued by a Good Samaritan,
A poor, kind hearted shepherd, who raised her as his own.
The beautiful young Perdita pictured above,
Was also abandoned, by her human family,
When they all moved out of their home,
Leaving her there, locked in, and all alone.
By the time that the ASPCA found her,
This Perdita was emaciated, at death’s door,
And so horribly terrified, of we human beings.
Three years ago, we found many Perditas just like this one,
Who were locked in, and left all alone, after Katrina came.
And today, because of the abysmal home foreclosures,
Far too many of these once treasured, now abandoned,
Perditas are once again being so tragically left behind.
Please find it in your heart,
To help one, if you possibly can;
And please report all animal abuse,
At the hands of today’s merciless man.
Cruelty, of any kind, to any living being,
Is truly among our very worst human sins.

This compassionate dog saved tiny kittens, dumped into a lake,
By yet one more, modern day, extremely heartless, human soul.
Animals seem to be far more caring than we humans today.
