Running for President, must really change a person
I think these two very different men, make that plain
On Climate Change
In 2003, and in 2004,
Senator John McCain held Hearings,
On The Dire Effects of Climate Change,
As Chair of the Senate Commerce Committee.
In 2008,
Candidate McCain failed to even vote,
On the highly praised, and bi-partisan,
Warner-Lieberman Climate Change Act.
In 2003, Senators McCain and Lieberman,
Sponsored the Senate’s very first law,
That would restrict carbon emissions.
In 2007, Candidate McCain somehow failed to vote,
On a tax credit that would expand clean energy sources,
And this bill, very sadly failed, by only one vote – his.
On Fuel Efficiency
In 2002, Senator McCain sponsored a bill,
With Senator John Kerry,
To raise fuel efficiency standards,
To 36 miles per gallon, by the year 2016.
In 2007, Candidate McCain failed to vote,
On a law, which passed the Senate,
That raised fuel efficiency standards,
To 35 miles per gallon, by the year 2020.
On The Oil Industry
In 2005, Senator John McCain,
Voted against the 2005 Energy Bill,
Which was written by Dick Cheney,
And Oil Lobbyists, behind closed doors.
In 2008, Candidate McCain’s Platform,
Now Includes $3.8 Billion,
In Additional Tax Breaks,
For The Big Five Oil Companies.
(They made $80 Billion, in 2007.)
On Offshore Drilling
In 1999, Senator McCain scolded,
Both Clinton and the Oil Companies,
For extending 36 offshore oil leases,
Along our pristine California coastline.
In June of 2008, Presidential Candidate John McCain,
Called for America’s ‘Moratorium On Offshore Drilling,’ to be lifted;
In May of 2008, he had received only $200,000 from the oil industry;
Oddly enough, in June 2008, his Big Oil contributions were $1.1 million.
On The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR)
In January of 2008, Senator McCain said,
“Drilling for oil in ANWR, would be like,
Drilling in the Grand Canyon, or in the Everglades,”
All three of them being wondrous American treasures.
In early August of 2008, Candidate John McCain said,
He was re-considering his opposition to drilling in ANWR;
And in late August of 2008, he picked Sarah Palin, for V.P.;
The most adamant advocate of drilling in ANWR, in our nation.

Someone Who Firmly Believes,
And Will Always Firmly Believe,
That We Must Wean Ourselves Off Oil,
And Turn To Alternative Energy Solutions,
If We Hope to Save Our Floundering Nation,
Instead of Constantly, Digging Ourselves In,
Deeper, and Deeper, and Deeper, and Deeper.
Yet, It Seems Our Politicians Continue to Allow Big Oil,
To Rule Our Lives, Our Nation, and Our Political Process;
We’ll Soon ‘Drill, Baby, Drill’ In Every Corner of America,
Destroying More of Our God-Given Beauty, and Our Wildlife,
From Alaska, Through the Rockies, Down to those Everglades;
And since we have far less oil, than we will continue to consume,
A Truly Energy Independent United States, will never be attained.

Most upsetting to me is the offshore drilling issue. I heard that within the next 30 days congress will vote on this. We in Florida have more miles of beach than TEXAS (we have 3 coasts!) and I sure don't want my beaches looking like Galveston island after this hurricane. (the slicks are moving in as we speak - its in the news)
What can I do about the upcoming offshore drilling vote?
Besides voting for president (that's already decided for me thanks to lopsided policies)

We, the People, have used this resource - oil - so indiscriminately it's shameful. The oil tzars have pushed this "drug" into our lives, and we've become addicted...AND made SOME people very rich (EXXON Ceo $4 Mil bonus this year), while depleting our resources and pocketbooks/wallets!
WHY did we not have all motor vehicles with 35 mpg 30 or more years ago? (when gas was $.50/gal)
WHY does speed limit go up to 70 mph? To use more gas!
Are we talking to a nation/world of addicts?
