Today is National POW/MIA Recognition Day
A day that is set aside for all of us, to pause and to reflect
To remember our prisoners of war, and those missing in action
A day we should all fly this flag in their honor, so we never forget

Observances of National POW/MIA Recognition Day will be held all across America today on military installations, our ships at sea, state capitols, schools, and veterans' facilities.
And this solemn observance today is one of six days throughout the year that Congress has mandated the flying of the National League of Families' POW/MIA flag. The others are Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, and Veterans Day.
The flag above will be flown today at military installations, national cemeteries, post offices, VA medical facilities, the World War II Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the offices of the Secretaries of State, Defense, and Veterans Affairs, at the White House, and in front of many American homes.
This flag is the symbol that reflects our solemn commitment to our extremely courageous service members who have been imprisoned while serving in conflicts around the world, and to those who still remain missing in action.
Our nation must always remember these valiant heroes, and we must now renew our pledge to achieve the fullest possible accounting for every single missing member of our Armed Forces.
The Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command, located at Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, has more than 600 personnel — military and civilian — working to account for America’s POW/MIAs, and those killed in action, remains not recovered.
There have been POWs and MIAs in every conflict our nation has ever fought in, dating back to the Revolutionary War. And as of today, September 19, 2008, 1,752 Americans are still listed as missing and unaccounted for from the Vietnam War.
We should all pause to honor and remember them today, and we should all continue to lobby our leaders for expanded POW/MIA facilities, and for even more personnel to locate them, so that we as a nation can finally keep our promise to them of ‘No Man Left Behind.’
