Dumped in Shelters and Along Roads, Across the USA

He was abandoned in a huge park
He lingers there, both night and day
I now find myself traipsing after him
But Little Jack is now abysmally afraid
He took me on a very long, long chase
Through many backyards and alley ways
He has forgotten how to trust we humans
My heart now breaks for him in many ways
I almost had him convinced just yesterday
But he’s now so untrusting, and so terrified
He teetered between accepting me and fleeing
Then he bolted off, far too much fear in his eyes
Now, he is showing up outside my backyard
I’m hoping one of my dogs can convince him
That here he can have another safe loving haven
But trust will only come if he once again gives in
And Little Jack has very painfully reminded me
Of so many dogs and cats down in New Orleans
Who eventually lost all trust, in we human beings
As they struggled to survive on its streets so mean
I may have to set out my feral cat live-traps
And hope with hunger, that he will take the bait
My heart is breaking for this tiny abandoned waif
Cruelly dumped by his human, what a hideous fate
If you would like to help pets like Little Jack,
Adopt a very forlorn shelter dog or cat, today;
All of these new and innocent foreclosure victims,
Truly need many new human friends, right away.

Thank you for your caring of our animals that cannot take care of themselves. And if they were mistreated, why should they trust humans. Hopefully, by now, Jack understands your love, and he's come to you. Very tender, heartwrendering write, with such an important message. God Bless You.

No that the Scandinavians have the costum of buy pets when little Jimmy or Kathy ask for it, but they have a sense of family, they will never, ever, abandon their pets.
In old folks and home for the sick around here in Sweden, they have cats and dogs doing the rounds.
And lately, a program for prison inmates to adop the few pet that rarely appear in the shelters by tourist that dumpet their pets from their trailers.
Cruelty to animals is very very rare in Scandinavia.
We should learn.

I wish I could adopt, but as I said yesterday, we live in a complex that doesn't allow cats or dogs. Birds or fish, yes, but not cats or dogs. Shame!!
