And I wanted to see history made.

I’m so glad the next time our history books are printed,

This will be the next chapter.”

A Chicago Public School Teacher

So many had now come together

In a huge park, in my hometown

Gathering to mark, a new chapter

The most historic event to be found

A man of color, our nation’s new leader

In a nation truly built on ethnic diversity

A much needed chapter, in moving ahead

Truly a time of national celebration and glee

As I looked around, at all those who had gathered here

I finally saw our Whites, Blacks, Asians, and Hispanics

All united, and celebrating a magical moment in history

All firmly resolved to move ahead in harmony, not panic

If our nation has ever needed a brand new feeling of unity

And a sense of all our people having a stake in our democracy

This was the time for America’s needed historic transformation

For me and for so many others in our nation, truly a time of glee

And I truly hope that each of us can now support our new leader

And that each of us will now be willing to move our nation ahead

The last eight years have truly been abysmal in our nation’s history

May the next four bring us a renewed sense of pride, devoid of dread

And now, having witnessed this brand new historic U.S. chapter

Before I die, I truly hope to see all of our ethnic groups on the rise

It would be wondrous to elect Latinos, Asians, and Native Americans

And I can already see a brand new feeling of belonging, in all their eyes

God Bless our now re-invigorated nation,

God Bless our wondrous ethnic diversity;

God Bless all who help move us forward,

Today I am proud, in the Land of the Free.

Well said. I feel pretty good myself. Let's hope for a complete recovery for our nation and prosperity for all.

I would love to see how Sarah and Hillary fare in the next few years.
They have fantastic potential. (IMHO)

Wonderful stirring poem of the TRUTH which marches on... I was so glad I could see his speech last night here in the "backwoods" of Florida on a little battery powered 8" TV. I may be the only one who voted for him in my very "bigoted" area. It's sad; so many of those "poor" whites who live back here could not put forward a new foot when the politics of the Republicans hardly ever serve their interests!
Now IF ONLY I can get out of here in the next year. A lonely vigil this has surely been for me living where my talents and mind are wasted...
Good work on keeping us informed!

So well expressed, Ed, befitting such a wonderful event. I never dreamed I would see this in my lifetime. Obama's main challenge will come from the roused expectations of a suddenly energized populace who all want to see some movin' and shakin' goin' on! And I do believe we will see some results from this president. I also believe we will see a mellowing of our Main Street bigotry (though we will see a few hot spots where the ignorant congregate). I do not belong to any political party but I feel the energy of this change and I like the feeling. Like, maybe we will feel some pride in America again!!!
