“We will be remembered,
By the tracks we leave.”
A Native American Proverb
Yet another winter’s snowfall
It arrived in the deep of the night
I wake at dawn and dress quickly
Soon, I wander outside with delight
Ever since I was a very young child
I’ve loved studying tracks in the snow
It fascinates me to ponder Earth’s life
I marvel at various life forms on the go
This very chilly winter’s morning
I soon spot a most interesting array
A family of three had visited my yard
Their tracks are very visibly on display
A very wise and caring mother of two
Had brought her two babies to my yard
Especially in winter’s very frigid weather
Finding food to survive can be quite hard
And I can tell by the remnants remaining
That all three were delighted to eat their fill
Of bird seed, cracked nuts, and breadcrumbs
This very loving mother must have been thrilled
For she has now taught her babies where to go
If something happens to her, before winter leaves
She has shown them where they can now find food
Back in their cozy den now, she must be quite pleased
And like this extremely loving raccoon mother of two
We will be remembered by the tracks we leave behind
We should assist those now less fortunate than ourselves
And in this Season of Giving, be compassionate and kind
