“As we move through life,

The force of fate creates events

That we only seem to appreciate,

When we reflect on our own existence.”

Ronald Harmon

Music: Deep Forest

As old Turbo and I walked on in the snow

He suddenly veered off, into the thick brush

Soon, he reappeared, and wanted me to follow

So I quickly did, in old Turbo’s instincts I trust

And it wasn’t long before I saw what he’d seen

A young deer, badly tangled in some rusted wire

Good old Turbo has often brought me injured birds

So now I knew, that helping this deer, was his desire

And it wasn’t very long before I untangled this young creature

As it now raced off, I caught a glimpse of its mother in the snow

Our eyes locked onto each other, as if she were now thanking me

And I soon yelled out, “Don’t thank me; it was good old Turbo!”

As Turbo and I walked on, down the snowy, forested path

I began wondering if this had been a chance encounter, or fate

If this dog had not wanted to go wandering with me that morning

I would never have found this fawn – a most interesting mind debate

But I often think to myself that animals are more ‘in tune’ than we are

As I sat typing this poem, Turbo sprawled at my feet, smiling up at me

Could he have had some knowledge about a fellow animal in trouble?

I guess I’ll never know, but now I’m extremely glad I had his company

Turbo is my Native American Dog,

He hails from the Land of the Navajo;

Part Cattle Dog, part Guardian Angel,

Old Turbo has only Goodness in his Soul.

He’s also one of the most intelligent dogs,

That I have ever had the privilege to know;

And one of my numerous stories about him,

Will appear in a new book –‘Dog Is My Hero.’

Ed you are a nature lover, and your need to be out in the woods etc has marked you as a helper, your dogs pick up from your actions, and God knows when He can make use of both man and beast, and guides them to places they can be helpful! I truly believe this. You and Turbo make a good pair;-)Loved this !

What a touching story, Ed. I am so glad I found a few minutes to come and read this evening. I think animals have a way of communicating with one another, be it telepathically or through some sort of rumblings in the earth. I know with elephants, they make low rumbling sounds that can be heard through the feet of other elephants miles away. They summon others when one of the herd dies, when there is danger, when they find ample food or water and when a calf is born. There is so much for us to learn from the animals, but I fear that our ego keeps us from learning from these four legged sages. Merry Christmas to you, your family and your tribe of Sages.
Take care,
Sherry

This is a beautiful piece. I had a black lab for years. She wasn't much of a hunter. She was all heart but man I loved that dog.
God Bless,

Beautiful. Of course Turbo knew. Animals have instincts they listen to. And he had you, a lover of all of nature and its creatures. Excellent. Liz

Don't you hear Jersey he has not gotten permission to land, yet.
And I concur, animals are much better that today's man, before we respected them like one of our near family.
Take care of Turbo and he will take care of you.

Georg
