A Volunteer at a Veterans’ Cemetery
The laying of the wreaths was Saturday
Thousands of Holiday wreaths on graves
Hundreds of volunteers who remembered
Hundreds who paused to ponder the names
Wreaths were placed on tombstones nationwide
To honor and remember those who gave their all
We as a nation owe them such an immense debt
The least we can do is ponder, honor, and recall
And now, it’s time to think about those homeless
Over 200,000 of our veterans living on the streets
Unless we as a nation make an effort to help them
This coming Holiday Season will be extremely bleak
Please contact a veterans’ shelter or a soup kitchen in your area
To learn what you can do to help make their Holidays more bright
Many military and veteran families, now find themselves homeless
We should all be working this Holiday Season, to ease their plight
Think about the fact that our many leaders,
And all of us in this extremely troubled country,
Owe them a debt of gratitude we can never re-pay,
Since they serve, and die, and suffer – for you and me.
Visit a Veteran or Military Hospital,
Contact a Local Shelter or Soup Kitchen,
Give What You Can This Holiday Season,
We All Need To Remember and Honor Them.
