Desiderata

I now spot him quite often

This prairie wolf, on the roam

Since we frequent the same forest

Here I’m an intruder, this is his home

I often spot him out hunting

He often sees me in the snow

We learned to tolerate each other

Since our paths do cross as we go

Many today, do despise him

They do not want him around

But to me, he has a right to exist

Although he isn’t welcome in town

His kind seem to be quite despised

Yet we destroy many of their homes

But he too, has to feed his family

So into towns and cities, he roams

As we also now kill off his food sources

His kind now often hunt our family pets

But I believe the fault lies not with coyote

We humans don’t seem to have learned yet

Everything in Creation had its purpose

The Balance of Nature, it worked just fine

But somehow, we humans forgot all of this

In a world we’ve created, that is most unkind

I now spot him quite often,

This prairie wolf on the roam;

Since we frequent the same forest,

But I’m the intruder, this is his home.

All the coyote needs a little understanding, he needs a place to be free, a place where people wont move. Great write.

I my God, have you got this right, Balance, proportion, understanding, so much of that missing today, and yes is trying to feed his family, he even has a sense of love and responsibility, which many of our species seem to have forgotten. He kills to feed, not out of greed, can we say that? Wonderful poem! Jasmin Horst

I read somewhere about lamchops being more than good for you, after all, a million coyotes can be that wrong! (really? a million?)

Is the prairie wolf a true wolf or coyote? I don't know but there's an element today that thinks if it's a predator its OK to kill it - and then there are the economic/politico reasons most of which are just plain false. But the one predator who doesn't seem to have a right to take all but does, is the one I'm worried about. He's the one out of blance... and it ain't the wovles.

I've seen a coyote or two 'round here, but they don't scare me. As long as I don't bother them, and they don't bother me, then all is well. They deserve to live, too, you know! God made them, too, just as He did ALL of His creatures! :) Now, if I had a cat or a small dog, and there were coyotes afoot, I'd be worried. Best to keep small pets inside when Mr. Coyote has been spotted. Good message here; well done, Ed!
