One thing is for sure, any animal in trouble in your neck of the woods is lucky that you know just how to handle the situation without getting any "authorities" involved! Amazing as I read along, how you also just put these experience so easily into verse. I wish I could write like that. I've been busy feeding cold, hungry cats in the woods out back. A few may be ferrels but most I think belong to the type of people here that think a cat can live outside and fend for itself. Unfortunately, when we get sub-freezing Wx in FL, our animals and pets (and me too!) are not equipped to handle it.
So the neighbor's cat slept in my garage last night and had some extra meals! I don't think she minded one bit! PS: GREAT Title for this one, I hope that doggie gets a fine home.

I once decided to make friends with a squirrel behind my house. It took me hours of sitting still and offering peanuts. First I threw one near where it was, then I began tossing them closer to me. In the end I just held one out and waited for the little bugger to come and get it. It did but then scurried to a safe distance to eat it. In the end the squirrel would wait for me to come out then jump on my leg and happily munch away. All it took was patience and peanuts to make a new friend. We spent many hours together after that. Thanks Ed.

Breaks my heart to know that someone can do this to an innocent animal. I remember us taking a dog in on Christmas Eve that was frozed and hungry because someone put out because they were going away for the season. That was in Goose Bay, Labrador where the tempreture drops to - 40 & -50. The poor dog would have had no chance of survival but we took real good care of him. Thank you Ed.

Such a caring write my friend, the world is a better place because of you. Recently my granddaughter wanted her own pet. We went to the shelter and adopted her a beautiful cat named Princess. Princess is now living a pampered lifestyle...from rags to riches. Enjoyed this beautiful write!

She finally accepted my offering of food and friendship





And she then allowed me to place her inside my warm truck





She was now all skin and bones, and her right eye was bleeding





Thankfully, she had given in to trust which would change her luck

A happy ending to a sad tale, I wish my New Year story could have had a happy ending too, but unfortunately it was not to be.

You are a true angel for this little orphan! Without your compassion and presistence this sweet little dog would have died. You showed her you could be trusted and she responded in time. I feel so much compassion for all the little animals abandoned and out in the cold. Its so sad. I have a little dog named Blackie and he's my heart. I never knew how much an animal could mean until I got him. He's just like my own child! He's spoiled yes, but I'd rather see him spoiled than abused, hungry and cold. God bless you, Ed.

I love this poem, Ed, a lot!!! "Precious" would have perished. I firmly believe that animals can see inside the souls behind eyes that are focussed on them (they know friend from foe, right from the git-go), and that Woodrow Wilson quote is spot on :-)
