Poem Artwork
-->

First,

A Foot of Snow;

And Now,

The Bitter, Arctic Cold.

“Every artist dips his brush in his own soul,

And paints his own nature into his pictures.”

Henry Ward Beecher

An artist came a callin last night

While everyone here was sleepin

I thought I heard the crafty rascal

At our windowpane silently creepin

My vigilant dogs must have sensed him

Because they acted awful fidgety all night

And when I crawled out of bed this mornin

My cats were admiring his work with delight

After I brewed my pot of aromatic coffee

I sat in my kitchen window, admiring it too

This artist really knows how to paint a picture

He uses bright sparkling hues of silver and blue

Trees, bushes, and windows are his canvas

His winter artistry is extremely meticulous

His work is truly both stunning and serene

Nothing he ever paints ever looks ridiculous

And as I gazed out at his truly fine artistic work

I suddenly realized that he hadn’t visited in awhile

I just kept staring at it, appreciating his artistic style

But my dogs kept pestering, and soon, I lost my smile

My five anxious mutts seemed to be in a big hurry today

Their need to heed the Call of Nature was extremely plain

And as we stepped out to a bone chilling blast of arctic air

I realized that like many an artist, Jack Frost is truly insane

And now, the T.V. weatherman says,

It’ll be going down to about 20 Below;

Although I really admire old Jack’s work,

I think I’d rather have another foot of snow.

Brrrrrrrrrrr.....we're dipping into the low 30's tonight here in sunny Florida! Freak this! Why does anyone want to live where you can't, for the life of you, think about anything else but trying to get warm! No thank you! Obviously your use to it, or you wouldn't find the beauty in Jack! AND...anyone who could write about artists painting beautiful scenes with frost on windows, and dog's peeing on it...to come out with a poem to combine them so elegantly, has gotta be good! :)
Well done, Mr. Ed!
Love and Peace~

Yeah, it's here too. I love to watch the snow from inside the house--looking out. And having dogs, all that yellow added to the white and blue, kind of looks out of place, doesn't it? lOL

Like most art, things seem not what they are, it's a three dimensional painting, the frost is the other ha, it's minus -26 up here dew point at 62, with this dampness is feel like - 36, my pooch didn't bother to go very far into nature, he peed right on the front step, I know because I took a good tumble, ha, I agree it looks good, but it's like virtual reality, minus the feeling of the cold.
I am home today, because I made sure the little ones had lots of stuff to keep them fat and warm. Bless You! Jasmin Horst

Winter?? What winter?? We haven't had any snow here!! One ice storm was it!! GRRRR!! Somehow, 65 degrees one day, 55 the next, and then 84 the day after just doesn't cut it with me! I want SNOW. I want COLD!! NOT this flip-flop, flip, flop crappola here that they have in Texas!! It's nuts; it's no wonder so many people are sick! CRAZY!! Good write; well done, Ed!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :)

The image, the poem, takes me there: brrrr. 35 degrees here. Above. Spring is on the way, with her own magical brush ... too bad not soon enough, right? Stay safe and warm, hear? A beautiful write, albeit a chilly one. Sounds like a five dog day.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Your poem is a beautiful work of art. What great metaphors. Also, its an interesting story that puts a bit of envy in us Florida folks who never get to see the natural canvas you speak of. (Although I admit, I love that bright sun that's shining in my window on this cold morning.) Great write.
